About this hotel
General information
Constance Le Chaland occupies a quiet stretch of wild beach on the south-east coast of Mauritius, beside Blue Bay Marine Park, one of the island’s best-protected underwater reserves. Its contemporary buildings sit within dense greenery, linked by paths that wind naturally through the gardens, with open, light-filled spaces turned towards the ocean and interiors furnished with Mauritian art and local pieces.
The resort has 170 rooms, suites and pool villas. Its kitchens draw on produce from the south of the island and the wider Indian Ocean, served across two restaurants, a wine cellar and four bars. A resident marine biologist introduces guests to the life of the lagoon, while Constance Spa with its traditional hammam, along with yoga and meditation by the shore, sets an unhurried pace.
Location
The hotel lies on Le Chaland beach in the south-east of Mauritius, next to Blue Bay Marine Park. Mauritius International Airport is about 5 km away, roughly 15 minutes by car; the hotel arranges transfers on request, and taxis or private car hire are also available. The town of Mahébourg is around 10 minutes away.
Spa
Constance Spa has three single and two couples’ treatment rooms, two open-air Thai massage pavilions, a traditional Turkish hammam, steam rooms in the men’s and women’s changing areas, a beauty salon, two relaxation lounges and a whirlpool. Its signature ritual opens with a tea of peppermint, rose petals and orange blossom, continues with the steam of the hammam, a Moroccan black-soap scrub and a rhassoul clay wrap, and ends with a massage using oil scented with vanilla, musk and brown sugar.
Sports & leisure
Most activities on land and water are included in the stay:
- two floodlit tennis courts, with rackets free of charge and lessons at extra cost
- coastal walking trails
- paddleboarding, kayaks, pedalos and glass-bottom boat outings
- snorkelling with the resort’s marine biologist, equipment provided
- a 24-hour fitness centre with Technogym equipment and group sessions on the weekly programme, from circuit training to yoga and Pilates; meditation and tai chi by the shore
- at extra cost: scuba diving, catamaran trips, sunset cruises, transparent paddleboards, e-bike and quad-bike tours, nature reserve trips and outings to Mahébourg
- there is no golf course on site: guests are invited to play at Avalon Golf Estate, about 40 minutes’ drive away, with views of the ocean and the mountains
For children
The Coconut Tribe kids’ club welcomes children aged 4–11, who can join on any day of the stay. Its programme follows five themes — eco missions, kindness, movement and mindfulness, STEAM experiments and outdoor adventure — with a playground and climbing frame, arts and crafts drawing on local culture, ocean discovery sessions with the marine biologist and cooking activities. Children aged 4–6 have their own imagination space with playhouses and toy kitchens. Babysitting and tennis lessons for children are available at extra cost.
Restaurants & bars
The resort has two restaurants, a wine cellar and four bars; the cooking builds on local produce and Indian Ocean flavours, and wines are chosen by the hotel’s own sommelier team.
- Horizon — the main restaurant, serving international cuisine at breakfast and dinner, with buffets, à la carte dishes, live cooking stations and themed evenings
- Flame & Tide — grill and seafood with the catch of the day, aged meats and local produce, open for lunch and dinner indoors or outdoors with panoramic sea views
- 1884 Wine Cellar — an intimate cellar where each course of a personalised menu is paired with wine; by reservation only
- Karokan — the main bar beside the infinity pool, with light bites, tropical drinks and signature Mauritian rum cocktails
- Aqua Pool Bar — a swim-up bar with bamboo-shaded seating and poolside snacks through the day
- Flame & Tide Beach Bar — an open-air beach bar serving cocktails with canapés from the early evening until late
- Ti Baz — a small beachside bar with Mauritian bites, tropical fruit and cocktails served from food carts among the shoreline greenery
Stays are offered on a bed-and-breakfast, half-board or all-inclusive basis.
Swimming
The resort opens onto a secluded white-sand beach, and the sheltered waters of Blue Bay Marine Park, with their coral gardens, begin a few steps from the rooms. There are two pools: the main infinity pool and the Aqua Pool, a family pool set among the greenery, while the villas each have a private pool.
