About this hotel
General information
The Westin Dragonara Resort, Malta has a natural peninsula in St Julian's entirely to itself — 74,000 m² of land fringed by the Mediterranean. Guests come in through a private gateway carved with a line from Virgil to the effect that God made this gem for us. The grounds are laid out around old artefacts, sunken gardens and pools, so the sea is in view almost everywhere, and the light, villa-style lobby looks through floor-to-ceiling windows onto a sunny terrace above the shore.
With 413 rooms and suites it is a large resort, equally suited to families, couples and business travellers. The 66 Luxury Bay Suites stand apart in their own building at the water's edge, while the top floor holds the Penthouse and Presidential Penthouse suites, some with private pools. Seven restaurants and bars range from the flagship Quadro to a lounge in a 19th-century boathouse, and there is a dive centre, a kids' club and an Executive Club lounge. The resort holds Green Key certification and is part of Marriott's Westin Hotels & Resorts.
Location
The resort is on Dragonara Road in St Julian's, on its own peninsula looking out over St George's Bay, yet within walking distance of the town centre; the St Julian's bus terminus is close by. Malta International Airport is about 12 km away. There is no hotel shuttle, but a private car transfer can be arranged on request, and paid on-site parking is available.
Spa
Wellness here centres on the WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio, which adds sauna and steam rooms and locker rooms to the gym, alongside a heated indoor pool and a whirlpool. The studio and the indoor pool are free for resort guests. A hair salon is also on site.
Sports & leisure
The air-conditioned WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. to guests aged 16 and over, with cardio machines, free weights, indoor cycling bikes, TRX and rowers. A weekly timetable covers barbell strength classes, cycling with HIIT intervals, Pilates, vinyasa yoga, aqua classes and circuit training; personal training and body composition analysis are available at a charge. Beyond the gym:
- Divewise Malta, a dive centre on the resort grounds for recreational and technical divers, with year-round PADI courses, equipment and organised boat trips
- snorkelling, watercraft rental and table tennis
- concierge-arranged tours: Valletta; Mdina, Rabat, Mosta and the Ta' Qali crafts village; Gozo; the Blue Grotto and Marsaxlokk; Malta's prehistoric temples
For children
The Westin Family Kids Club takes children aged 3–12 daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at a charge; parents do not stay during sessions and under-3s are not admitted. The programme changes regularly, from arts and crafts to games and outdoor play. The club is not a babysitting service, though the concierge can arrange trusted independent babysitters on request. Families can book the Family Junior Suite for up to six, cots are available, there is an Eat Well menu for children, and under-16s may use the indoor pool until 7 p.m.
Restaurants & bars
Seven restaurants and bars are backed by 24-hour room service, and Westin's Eat Well dishes, including a children's menu, feature on the resort's menus.
- Quadro — the flagship restaurant: simple, home-style cooking from fresh local produce, with fresh fish a strength; dinner
- The Terrace — a buffet of Maltese and international dishes; breakfast and dinner
- Palio's Trattoria — a relaxed Italian by the sea for pizza and pasta
- ORVM Lounge & Piano Bar — the resort's social hub, with a piano, a Mediterranean menu and breakfast, open from morning until midnight
- The Boathouse Lounge — tapas, wine and champagne in a 19th-century boathouse at the water's edge; warmer months, ages 13 and over
- Bay View Bar & Restaurant — drinks and light bites beside the large main pool in summer
- Reef Club Bar & Restaurant — open-air dining facing the sea in the warmer months
Swimming
The resort sits right on the water, with its own beach along the peninsula's shore, snorkelling and watercraft rental. The Bay View Pool is the large, heated main pool with its own bar; the outdoor Reef Club pool opens in the warmer months, and a heated indoor pool and a whirlpool are available all year. Towels are provided.
Pets
Pets are not allowed.
