General information
Verdala Wellness Hotel – AX Privilege is an adults-only five-star boutique hotel built entirely around wellbeing. It sits in the countryside outside Rabat, on a slope above the green valley that runs towards the walls of Mdina, and belongs to the AX Privilege collection of Malta’s AX Hotels group. Its 46 rooms and suites follow a quiet wabi-sabi aesthetic of natural materials, muted tones and generous valley-facing terraces.
The concept rests on five pillars of wellbeing – nutrition, movement, rest and recovery, emotional wellbeing, and community and connection. They shape both the individual treatments and the themed Signature, Seasonal and Bespoke retreats, each tailored to the guest after an initial consultation. At the centre of it all is the 1,500 m² V SPA, with indoor and outdoor pools, a hammam, a salt cave and a fitness studio, while dining is led by The Griffin Brasserie and two bars. Residents also have their own lounge, The Nook, a light-filled hall, The Phoenix, for group sessions, and a 24-hour reception.
Location
The hotel stands on Triq ir-Rgħajja at the edge of Rabat, in quiet countryside in the middle of Malta, with historic Mdina close by and its walls in view across the valley from the terraces. St Paul’s Catacombs, the Roman villa of Domvs Romana, Buskett Gardens and the Dingli Cliffs are all nearby. The hotel arranges taxi transfers to and from Malta International Airport, and a garage for 20 cars with number-plate recognition serves guests.
Spa
V SPA covers 1,500 m² and pairs time-honoured practices with modern technology. Its facilities include a heated indoor pool in a cave-like hall, a hammam, an aromatherapy sauna, an infrared sauna, a salt cave, a contrast-therapy area with cold and warm plunge pools, sensory experience showers, the Echoes meditation zone, The Nest relaxation area, the Elixir Bar for healthy bites, The Compass consultation room and seven treatment rooms. The menu runs from massages and body rituals with Maltese herbal oils to a hammam ritual, gua sha facials, DermaLux light therapy, a sound-led sleep therapy, breathwork and meditation. The spa is open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
The Movement Lab fitness studio looks out over the valley and is fitted with Technogym cardio machines and NOHRD strength equipment, a functional-training area and free weights, plus a dedicated Pilates reformer zone where every session is private and fully instructed. Personal trainers are on hand, and a studio is set aside for yoga, Pilates and meditation. Beyond the hotel, guests can join yoga and breathwork in natural settings, guided valley walks, private cultural tours of the island, cookery masterclasses and visits to local producers. The nearest golf course, the Royal Malta Golf Club, is 10 km away.
For children
The hotel is for adults only; V SPA and its wellness facilities are open to guests aged 16 and over.
Restaurants & bars
Food here follows the Mediterranean seasons, with a light, mindful touch:
- The Griffin Brasserie – Mediterranean cooking built on local produce, with a terrace and sweeping valley views; breakfast and dinner
- The Living Room Lounge Bar – a lounge for smoothies, salads, light seasonal plates, afternoon tea, signature cocktails and alcohol-free drinks
- The Ridge Pool Bar – beside the infinity pool, serving salads, piadine, energy bowls, juices and smoothies in the warmer months
- Elixir Bar – healthy bites within V SPA

Swimming
There is no sea on the doorstep, so swimming is in the pools. The outdoor infinity pool looks across the Rabat valley and is heated in the cooler months. Inside V SPA, a 38 m² heated indoor pool is lit by natural daylight, and an outdoor jacuzzi with massage jets and island views stays warm all year. Pool towels are provided.
Rooms
There are 46 rooms and suites in five categories: 9 Comfort Rooms, 12 Deluxe Rooms, 22 Junior Suites, 2 Penthouse Suites and a single Designer Suite. Interiors follow a wabi-sabi look with natural materials; every room has a balcony or terrace, and the suites add a private terrace hot tub and hammock.
Every room has a bath, hypoallergenic bedding, wellness amenities, smart technology, individually controlled air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, in-room dining and daily housekeeping.
Comfort Room
The hotel’s entry category: a bright room with a bath, hypoallergenic bedding and a private balcony looking inland. There are nine of them.
Deluxe Room
A roomy space with a bath and a large furnished terrace with a daybed and sofa, overlooking the pool and the Rabat valley. There are twelve of them.
Junior Suite
A suite with a living area and a bathroom with both bath and shower; the spacious valley-view terrace has its own hot tub, a hammock and lounging areas.
Penthouse Suite
One of two top-floor suites, opening onto a vast private terrace with a hot tub, hammock and lounging areas and dual-aspect views over the valley and countryside. The bathroom has both bath and shower.
Designer Suite
The hotel’s one-of-a-kind top-floor suite, The Observatory Suite, with bespoke design details, a soaking bath and the largest terrace in the house, complete with a large hot tub, hammock and dual-aspect views.
