About this hotel
General information
Rosselli – AX Privilege occupies a restored 17th-century palazzo in the very heart of Valletta. It is an intimate house of 25 rooms and suites in which the Renaissance and Baroque grandeur of the old building meets contemporary design — coloured marble, brass, warm wood and bold wallpaper. Every room belongs to the Designer Collection, with each category given its own name and personality.
At the centre of the palazzo lies an enclosed courtyard with a fountain more than four centuries old and original to the house, around which a quiet lounge has been arranged. Up on the roof there is a panoramic terrace with a small pool, while the three venues of the Grain dining group range from a fine-dining restaurant to a bar on the roof. Butler service, room service and the AX Privilege programme complete the stay.
Location
The hotel stands at 167 Merchants Street, one of the main thoroughfares of historic Valletta. The Grandmaster’s Palace, the National Museum of Archaeology, the MUŻA fine arts museum, the War Museum and the Manoel Theatre are all close by, so the capital is easily explored on foot. The front desk arranges taxis at fixed fares and car hire, and AX Privilege guests can park at the MCP car park.
Spa
There is no spa within the hotel, but the Don Pietro rooms each have a private indoor wellness terrace with a sauna and a rain shower. Through the AX Privilege programme, guests can also book treatments at Amis Spa in Valletta.
Sports & leisure
A compact workout room on the ground floor is reserved for hotel guests, with a treadmill and exercise bike, a multigym, dumbbells from 2 to 20 kg, yoga mats, an exercise ball and resistance bands; sessions with a personal trainer can be arranged. The AX Privilege programme included with every stay adds a guided morning walk through lesser-known corners of Valletta, wine tasting with the sommelier, VIP access at the Manoel Theatre, privileged entry to the city’s museums and private shopping with local jewellers and designers. The front desk also books excursions around Malta and Gozo, horse riding, and rounds on the 18-hole course at the Marsa Sports Club.
For children
There is no kids’ club, but cots are provided on request and experienced babysitters can be booked with 24 hours’ notice. Children over 12 are welcome at Under Grain.
Restaurants & bars
The hotel’s restaurants and bar belong to the Grain dining group:
- Under Grain — a fine-dining restaurant in intimate rooms within the palazzo, with tasting and à la carte menus built on seasonal produce, a separate seafood menu and a wide cellar of international wines; smart-casual dress
- Grain Street — a relaxed street-level restaurant serving Mediterranean and European sharing plates, snacks and charcuterie, with every wine poured by the glass, tables outdoors and breakfast each morning
- Over Grain — a cocktail bar on the roof with views across Valletta, open in the warmer months
- Grain Private — a private room for intimate dinners and business meetings
The Rosselli Lounge occupies the fountain courtyard, and meals can also be served in the rooms.
Swimming
The hotel has no beach. On the roof of the palazzo there is a small outdoor plunge pool with a sun deck looking out over the Valletta skyline; pool towels are provided free of charge and drinks are served at the loungers.
