About this hotel

General information

W Maldives occupies Fesdu, a heart-shaped island in North Ari Atoll ringed by white sand, a turquoise lagoon and a celebrated house reef, reachable straight from the villa decks. It is a W Hotels resort through and through — bold, music-led and sociable — with overwater villas patterned after whale sharks and beach villas drawing on the textures of the mangroves.

There are 77 villas, each with its own pool. The round-the-clock Whatever/Whenever team handles any request, from dinner on a deserted island to a lesson in Dhivehi. The resort also keeps Gaathafushi, a small private island nearby for picnics, dinners and nights under the stars, along with yachts for cruising and dive trips. It holds Green Globe certification, with reef conservation, responsible sourcing and waste reduction among its priorities.

Location

The resort lies on Fesdu Island in North Ari Atoll, about 57 km from Velana International Airport in Malé. Transfers are by seaplane, with resort staff meeting guests at the airport and helping with seaplane check-in.

Spa

AWAY Spa is built over the water, its treatment rooms suspended above the lagoon with views out to the ocean. The menu covers massages, including deep-tissue and couples' treatments, facials, body scrubs and therapy baths, and there is a steam room. Lagoon-side HIIT sessions and sound healing under the stars round out the wellness programme.

Sports & leisure

The house reef, home to reef sharks and turtles, starts right by the villas; snorkelling gear is free, and the resident marine biologist leads reef tours, night snorkels and sessions at the marine biology station. DOWN UNDER dive centre teaches PADI courses (nitrox and underwater photography among them) and runs trips to well-known North Ari sites, the Fesdu and Halaveli wrecks, and an overnight hammerhead expedition aboard the yacht ESCAPE.

  • WAVE water sports centre — windsurfing, sailing, kayaks, water-skiing, parasailing, Seabob and guided jet-ski tours to uninhabited islands
  • FIT — a 24-hour gym facing the ocean; table tennis too
  • HORIZON, a two-cabin yacht for sunset cruises, dinners on board and day charters around the atoll
  • Big-game fishing, traditional sunset hand-line and night fishing, dolphin cruises and local-island trips by dhoni
Restaurants & bars

Three restaurants and two bars are spread across the island; breakfast at KITCHEN is charged separately, and in-villa dining runs 24 hours.

  • KITCHEN — all-day bistro with an open kitchen and live stations, local dishes at lunch
  • FISH — overwater seafood restaurant, open on selected days
  • FIRE — beachside grill and smoker with tables on the sand, open on selected days
  • SIP — overwater sunset bar for signature cocktails and Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian) small plates
  • WET Deck — swim-up pool bar serving wood-fired pizza, salads, burgers and Asian dishes
  • Gaathafushi — private dinners on the neighbouring castaway island
Swimming

White-sand beaches and a lagoon with its own house reef surround the island, and every overwater villa has direct steps into the sea. The main WET infinity pool has a swim-up bar, cabanas and a whirlpool, and there is a water slide on the island. Every villa also has a private pool.
