General information
Vakkaru Maldives opened in December 2017 on a tropical island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with remarkably rich marine life. Its villas stand on white beaches and over the turquoise lagoon, and the resort is designed to suit guests of every age.
There are several restaurants spanning world cuisines, bars, a private wine cellar, an overwater spa, water sports and dive centres, a kids’ club and the Coconut family club, open around the clock. Active guests have tennis, padel and an overwater gym. A library and lounge, a boutique, an organic farm, concierge, butler service and laundry complete the picture, and weddings and honeymoon programmes can be arranged.
Location
Vakkaru lies in Baa Atoll, about half an hour by seaplane from Malé International Airport. Alternatively, a 20-minute flight to Dharavandhoo is followed by 30 minutes by boat.
Spa
Merana Spa sits over the water, with a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, nail studio, spa boutique, relaxation area and treatment rooms. The menu covers massage, beauty treatments, sound therapy and Siddhalepa Ayurvedic rituals.
Sports & leisure
A large outdoor pool is complemented by an overwater gym, open 24 hours and facing the ocean. The Splash centre handles water sports and diving; on land there are two floodlit tennis courts, a padel court, and volleyball and badminton courts. Cooking classes, entertainment, boat trips, fishing and island excursions are also on offer. Bicycles, sports gear and water sports, diving and snorkelling equipment are available to hire.
For children
The Parrotfish club, for ages 3–12, has its own pool, a playroom, playground and a full programme of activities. The Coconut family club, open around the clock, offers billiards, table tennis, table football and other games, and babysitting is available on request.

Dining is spread across five restaurants, two bars and a wine cellar.

Swimming
The island is edged with white-sand beaches, and beach villas have private stretches of shore.
Rooms
The resort has 113 villas in gardens by the beach and over the lagoon. Contemporary design meets Maldivian motifs, and terraces look out over the ocean, white sand and tropical gardens.
Villas have air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, an iPad to control lighting, air conditioning and TV, a safe, minibar, tea and coffee facilities with an espresso machine, a yoga mat, beach bag, flip-flops, bicycles, a hairdryer and toiletries.
Beach Villa with Plunge Pool
A garden villa by the beach with a king-size bed and sofa, outdoor shower and a terrace with a 12 m² pool, dining area and access to a private stretch of beach. Sleeps two adults and a child.
Overwater Villa
Set on stilts in the lagoon, with a king-size bedroom, sitting area and a terrace with outdoor shower, overwater hammock and steps into the sea. Sleeps two adults.
Overwater Villa with Pool
An overwater villa with a king-size bed and sofa and a 49 m² terrace with a 23 m² pool, outdoor shower and ocean steps. Sleeps two adults.
Overwater Deluxe Pool Villa
Over the lagoon, with a king-size bedroom, dressing room, bathroom and a large terrace with pool, outdoor shower, dining area and steps into the water. Sleeps two adults and a child.
Beach Pool Villa
A beach villa with a king-size bedroom, a lounge that can serve as a second bedroom, two bathrooms, a veranda and a terrace with a 34 m² pool and private beach. Sleeps three adults, or two adults and two children.
One Bedroom Over Water Pool Residence
An overwater residence with a king-size bedroom, living room, kitchen, dressing room, guest cloakroom and a terrace with a 62 m² pool, overwater hammock and lagoon steps. Sleeps two adults and two children.
One Bedroom Beach Pool Residence
A beach residence with a bedroom, living room, kitchen, guest cloakroom, a terrace with a 36 m² pool and a separate dining terrace opening onto a private beach. Sleeps two adults and two children.
One Bedroom Deluxe Beach Pool Residence
A garden residence by the beach with a king-size bedroom, living room, kitchen, veranda and a terrace with a 37 m² pool, dining area and private beach. Sleeps two adults and two children.
Two Bedroom Beach Pool Residence
A beach residence with two bedrooms (one king, one twin), a living room, two bathrooms and a terrace with a 38 m² pool and dining area. Sleeps four adults and two children.
Three Bedroom Beach Pool Residence
A beach residence with three king-size bedrooms, each with its own terrace, three bathrooms, a living room, gazebo and a terrace with a 55 m² pool. Sleeps six adults and three children.
Four Bedroom Beach Pool Residence
Four king-size bedrooms with terraces, four bathrooms, a living room, gazebo and a 68 m² pool beside a private beach. Sleeps eight adults and four children.
The Vakkaru Over Water Residence
A two-level residence at the very end of the overwater jetty: four bedrooms, a living and dining room, kitchen, staff quarters, spa area and a 300 m² terrace with a 60 m² pool, jacuzzi, gazebos and steps into the ocean. Sleeps eight adults, or four adults and four children.
