Baa Atoll

The Nautilus Maldives

About this hotel

General information

The Nautilus Maldives opened in February 2019 on a small private island in Baa Atoll, at the heart of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Once uninhabited, the island — with its own coral reef and white beaches — is now a boutique retreat of just 26 villas. The nautilus shell gave the resort its name and its forms: those flowing curves recur in the layout and design of every pool villa.

The guiding idea is freedom. Breakfast is served whenever and wherever guests like, restaurants have no dress code, and each day takes whatever shape the guest chooses. Every villa has a personal butler, and there is a spa and fitness centre, water sports and dive centres, complimentary Wi-Fi, laundry service and the resort’s own lounge at the international airport.

Location

The island lies in Baa Atoll, 30 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport in Malé. Alternatively, a 20-minute flight to Dharavandhoo is followed by a 20-minute speedboat ride. Guests arriving by private jet can land at the domestic airport and continue by yacht, a journey of around two and a half hours.

Spa

The spa sits at the centre of the island, with three pavilions offering signature face and body treatments.

Sports & leisure

There is an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, a water sports centre and a PADI dive centre, along with yoga and meditation. Guests can explore underwater with a marine biologist, dive some thirty well-known sites including Hanifaru Bay, head out on the yacht or join the entertainment programme. Non-motorised water sports, snorkelling and diving equipment and GoPro cameras are available to hire.

For children

There is a children’s play area, and babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

Meals follow no timetable: breakfast is served anywhere at any hour, deli-style bites appear through the day and cocktails in the evening.

  • Zeytoun — Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes on a terrace over the water
  • Zeytoun Lounge — above the restaurant and the lagoon, for drinks and fine wines before or after dinner
  • Ocaso — Japanese, Mexican and Peruvian cooking, beachside teppanyaki under the moon, a private teppan table and a wine room for tastings
  • Thyme — all-day beachfront restaurant with breakfasts from around the world, international lunches and dinners and an ocean view from every table
  • Naiboli — pool bar with loungers and cabanas, canapés through the day and The Nautilus Rising, a sunset cocktail ritual

In-villa dining is available.

Swimming

Sandy beaches circle the island, and the house reef begins a short way from the shore.

Rooms

All 26 villas have private pools and are set either in tropical gardens by the beach or on stilts in the lagoon. Their architecture and interiors pair an ultra-contemporary look with Maldivian motifs.

In each room

Villas have air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a flat-screen TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, a safe, a minibar, a wine bar and tea and coffee facilities with a coffee machine, plus a bathtub, separate shower, hairdryer and toiletries.
