About this hotel
General information
The resort has Vommuli to itself: dense tropical jungle fills the interior, while white beaches and a reef-fringed lagoon run round the edge. The architecture takes its cues from the sea. The overwater villas echo the shape of manta rays, the bar recalls a whale shark and the spa a crustacean; the beach villas draw on a fisherman’s hut, and the two-storey villas on the rocky southern shore wear sail-like roofs that nod to the traditional Maldivian dhoni.
There are 77 villas, each with its own pool, seven restaurants and bars, an overwater spa and Vommuli House, a discovery centre shaped like a banyan tree that holds the children’s club and the salon. The hallmark is round-the-clock St. Regis butler service, from unpacking and pressing to morning coffee with the weather forecast. The resort is Green Globe certified, bottles its own drinking water and supports coral restoration; drones are not permitted, for guests’ privacy.
Location
Vommuli lies in Dhaalu Atoll, one of the atoll’s 56 islands, most of them uninhabited. The shared seaplane from Velana International Airport in Malé takes about 45 minutes; guests on flights landing after 15:30 stay overnight in Malé. Private transfers aboard the resort’s yacht, Norma, can also be arranged.
Spa
Iridium Spa spreads across 1,850 m² over the water. Its six treatment suites, two of them Ayurvedic with private steam rooms, have glass doors to the sea and terraces with soaking tubs; there are also steam rooms, saunas, cold-drench showers, separate lounges for men and women and Blue Hole, a large adults-only hydrotherapy pool with whirlpool jets. Each visit begins in the Iridium Room, where a glass floor reveals the marine life below. Treatments use Biologique Recherche products and range from Ayurveda and shirodhara to acupuncture, Balinese and Thai massage, lava-shell massage, a caviar facial ritual and bath rituals for two, with visiting practitioners through the year. The salon at Vommuli House handles hair, make-up, manicures and pedicures.
Sports & leisure
The PADI-standard Vommuli Dive & Watersports Centre reaches more than 40 dive sites around the atoll, runs night dives and leads snorkelling on the house reef and coral gardens. Windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, jet skis, water-skiing and parasailing are all on offer, and bicycles are the easy way round the island. The 24-hour fitness centre has Technogym equipment and trampoline-based Jumping Fitness; the open-air Yogasala pavilion hosts yoga and anti-gravity yoga as well as a teacher-training course. A tennis pro coaches on the court. Excursions include sunset dolphin cruises, sunset and deep-sea fishing, sandbank picnics and visits to a local island, and the four-cabin yacht Norma can be chartered for diving trips, family outings or nights at sea. The observatory tower above the St. Regis Boutique looks out over the island and the ocean.
For children
The children’s club at Vommuli House is supervised by professional childcare staff and offers yoga for kids with breathing and meditation, painting, origami, crafts, puzzles, video and board games, plus healthy snacks and juices. A games area has table tennis, foosball, pool and air hockey, and teenagers have a lounge of their own. Every child receives a set of beach toys, butlers plan special activities and bedtime rituals for young guests, and the main pool has a children’s section.
Restaurants & bars
Seven restaurants and bars range from Mediterranean to Japanese; evenings call for smart casual dress.
- ALBA — Mediterranean cooking with Middle Eastern touches, from breakfast to dinner in a high-ceilinged room facing the sea
- T•Pan — modern Japanese kaiseki in a small, intimate room, paired with premium sake
- Orientale — pan-Asian dining on the beach: sushi, sashimi, dumplings and wok dishes
- The Whale Bar — overwater bar with Latin American tapas, cocktails, DJ sets and a sunset Champagne-sabering ritual
- Cargo — spice-led Indian Ocean dishes in a lantern-lit garden
- Crust & Craft — daytime beach pizzeria for the whole family
- Decanter — hidden wine cellar serving a six-course menu with paired wines
In-villa dining runs around the clock. Private options include candlelit beach dinners, a Bedouin-style Levant Night with mezze and grills, sandbank picnics and floating breakfasts in the villa pool.
Swimming
The beaches are coral sand, which stays cool even in the strongest sun, and beach service runs throughout the day. The main infinity pool sits beside Alba Beach, and the overwater villas have direct access to the lagoon and its house reef.
