About this hotel
General information
Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa occupies the small island of Hadahaa in Huvadhu, the deepest atoll in the Maldives, far down in the south of the country. The island was conceived as a “Living Island”: no coral was cleared, no trees were felled and no sand was pumped during construction, and the beaches still reshape themselves with the currents and seasons, free of seawalls and dredging.
There are 51 villas: 36 on the beach, 14 over the lagoon and the three-bedroom Kiaali Residence at the edge of the reef. A coral reef rings the entire island and can be entered from any beach or villa, so days here revolve around the ocean, with an on-site marine lab, a team of marine biologists and diving on the atoll’s remote walls.
Location
Hadahaa lies in the north of Huvadhu Atoll (Gaafu Alifu Atoll) in the southern Maldives. The journey from Velana International Airport in Malé is a domestic flight followed by a speedboat transfer to the resort.
Spa
The Vidhun Spa has five private treatment villas and draws on Maldivian healing traditions: Ayurvedic therapies, massages inspired by Dhivehi beys, the islands’ traditional folk medicine, and skincare and rituals using herbs and spices from the atoll and the island’s own herb gardens. Singing-bowl sound healing sessions and in-villa treatments are also offered.
Sports & leisure
Ocean activities are run by Blue Journeys. Divers head out by speedboat to more than a dozen wall and pinnacle sites around the atoll, Kooddoo Wall among them, and certified guests can also dive the house reef. Beginners can try a first dive or take full courses, including PADI certification; freedivers can choose a half-day introduction, a two-day course with dives to 10–16 m or a three-day advanced course to 20–24 m along the island’s steep reef wall.
- house reef snorkelling alone or with a guide, by day and by night, plus reef talks with the marine biologists at the Ocean Lab
- trips to Fuvahmulah to meet tiger sharks, for divers, snorkellers and freedivers, with local experts
- sea kayaking, turtle spotting, an evening dolphin cruise and sunset outings on a traditional dhoni
- traditional Maldivian fishing and big-game fishing
- cooking classes and cocktail-making classes
- sunrise and sunset yoga, aqua yoga and a 24-hour fitness centre with cardio and strength equipment
For children
Instead of an indoor kids’ club, the resort runs a weekly programme of outdoor activities with no screens or games consoles. Children explore marine life at the Ocean Lab with a marine biologist, build sandcastles and try local crafts and sustainability projects. Junior diving courses for children and teens, led by certified instructors, progress from first pool skills to open-water dives.
Restaurants & bars
Restaurants and bars are spread across the island, from the beach to a treehouse; meal plans up to all-inclusive can be added to a stay.
- The Dining Room — the main restaurant beside the infinity pool, with ocean views: international à la carte cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner and an extensive wine list
- The Island Grill — a grill and wood-fired oven with an open kitchen, tables and swing chairs set on the sand, seafood and meat
- KOI — an overwater Japanese restaurant at The Drift: sushi, sashimi and more than ten sakes, prepared in an open kitchen
- Treehouse Dining — dinner on a platform 5 m above the shore facing the sunset, with a seasonal chef’s menu built on the organic garden and atoll produce
- The Bar — beach cabanas, signature drinks with local ingredients and food throughout the day
- The Dive Bar and Snorkelers Lounge — a relaxed bar at the end of Sunset Pier Sala, no dress code, where guests drop in straight from the water
- Celestial Journey — a stargazing evening on the shore with star-themed cocktails
Themed beach dinners bring Asian street food with Maldivian storytelling and boduberu drumming, or a seafood barbecue, and private dinners can be set up in chosen spots around the island. In-villa dining runs around the clock.
Swimming
The island’s beaches are natural, with no seawalls or pumped sand, and the coral reef begins off every beach and every villa. Beside The Dining Room is an infinity pool facing the ocean, and a number of villas have a pool of their own.
Pets
Pets are not allowed, including service animals.
