NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort

About this hotel

General information

NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort has the island of Fonimagoodhoo to itself, in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The island is thick with tropical greenery, and a lively house reef begins a few minutes' swim from shore. There are 105 villas: the overwater villas arc along the northern tip, while the rest line the western beach with steps straight onto the sand. Interiors keep to natural tones and materials, and the open-air bathrooms follow the classic Maldivian style.

The resort leans towards active and family holidays, with eight restaurants and bars, a PADI dive centre, a water sports centre, courts for several racket games, a spa and a kids' club. Hanifaru Bay, where manta rays and whale sharks gather in season, is about 20 minutes away by boat. Working with marine biologists, the team replants coral and monitors sea turtles. Stays are offered with breakfast, half board, full board or all-inclusive.

Location

Fonimagoodhoo lies in Baa Atoll, some 125 km north of Malé. From Velana International Airport, a seaplane reaches the resort's jetty in 35–40 minutes, flying in daylight only. Late arrivals take a 20-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport, followed by a 15-minute speedboat ride. The resort arranges all transfers.

Spa

REVIVE Spa sits among the island's greenery, with four spacious treatment rooms and a daily programme of group and private yoga and mindfulness sessions. Treatments blend Eastern traditions with modern therapeutic techniques, and facials use ELEMIS products. The Revive Signature Ritual works on the neck, shoulders and upper back with gentle stretching and flowing massage. The menu also includes Ayurvedic shirodhara with warm herbal oil poured over the forehead, warm Himalayan salt stones finished with a rose quartz gua sha facial, a magnesium mineral therapy, and deep-tissue and intuitive massages.

Sports & leisure

The house reef, with corals, clownfish, reef sharks and eagle rays, starts a short swim from the beach, and night snorkelling with UV torches is on offer. The PADI centre teaches scuba, freediving and speciality courses. From May to November manta rays and whale sharks gather at Hanifaru Bay, where access is limited and snorkelling is guided. Sea turtles and young reef sharks cruise the lagoon, and dolphins often appear on sailing trips.

  • On the water: wakeboarding, jet skis, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, catamarans with or without an instructor, fishing trips
  • On land: a gym with a yoga area, a full-size tennis court, an indoor badminton court, pickleball and beach volleyball
  • An air-conditioned games room with table tennis and pool
For children

Maxies Family Club welcomes children aged 4–12 with craft workshops, sensory play areas, foosball and pool, and supervised games and activities. Outside there is a dedicated kids' pool with water slides and a shaded splash pool, and the Splash Bar next door serves drinks to children and parents alike.

Restaurants & bars

Eight restaurants and bars share the island, alongside private dining anywhere on the island and in-villa dining from 7 am to 10 pm.

  • Jumla — the main restaurant, with buffets, open kitchens and live cooking stations: Maldivian seafood, Indian, Mediterranean and international dishes
  • Alifaan — a beachfront grill cooking seafood, meat and island-garden vegetables over open fire, served on large plates to share
  • Kaiyo — Asian cooking at the water's edge: Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese, with bao, spring rolls, satay and sushi
  • Caravela — a tasting menu with wine pairings inspired by the sea voyages from Iberia to Africa and India; reservation required
  • Madumaithiri — the main pool bar, with pizzas, wraps, burgers and live music
  • Atardecer — a sunset bar with northern Spanish pinchos and tapas, Spanish cocktails and DJ sets
  • Handhuvaru — a lounge for rum lovers; the resort also ages rum underwater in the ocean
  • Splash Bar — drinks beside the kids' club
  • Adrift — private dinners, picnics and barbecues in secluded corners of the island, with menus shaped around the occasion
Swimming

Most villas sit on the western beach of soft white sand under palms, and the pool villas have their own pools right by the beach. The main infinity pool looks out over the ocean, with drinks and snacks served poolside and DJ sessions at sunset. The house reef is an easy swim from shore, and steps lead from the overwater villa decks straight into the lagoon.
