About this hotel
General information
Naladhu Private Island Maldives occupies a small island of about nine acres in South Malé Atoll; in Dhivehi its name means “beautiful little island”. There are just 20 houses, each of 300 m² or more with its own infinity pool, set among tropical gardens, palms and soft sand, and each named after a native plant.
The idea is privacy without giving up choice. Every guest has a personal Kuwaanu who arranges meals, outings and treatments. The island shares a lagoon with Anantara Dhigu and Anantara Veli, so Naladhu guests can use the restaurants, spas and activities of both neighbours and then return to the quiet of their own island. Several of the atoll’s best-known surf breaks lie close by.
Location
Naladhu lies in South Malé Atoll, 21 km from Velana International Airport in Malé. The transfer is by speedboat and takes about 30 minutes; a shared boat leaves within two hours of arrival at the airport lounge, and private boats are available on request. Anantara Veli is a short walk away along a boardwalk, and Anantara Dhigu is a pontoon-boat hop across the lagoon.
Spa
Naladhu Spa has a treatment room for one or two, and therapists also work in guests’ own houses. Wellness programmes combine nutrition guidance with tailored exercise, alongside consultations on sleep and jet lag, detox, gut health and skin and hair. Guests also have access to the overwater Anantara Spa on neighbouring Anantara Dhigu and to Ayurvedic programmes at Balance Wellness by Anantara on Anantara Veli, with a steam room, sauna and a garden of hot and cold plunge pools.
Sports & leisure
Surfing is the headline, but there is plenty more on the water and on land.
- Surfing with Tropicsurf: lagoon lessons, first sessions on gentle nearby breaks, guided sessions for accomplished surfers on whichever breaks suit the day, and half-day trips to the breaks of North Malé Atoll; the Veli left-hander breaks right off the neighbouring island and is free for advanced surfers with their own boards; peak season runs from April to December
- Snorkelling on the house reef with turtles, nurse sharks and reef fish, plus trips to see dolphins, mantas, turtles, whale sharks and the nurse sharks of Vaavu Atoll
- PADI diving: Discover Scuba in the lagoon, half- and full-day reef trips, Open Water and speciality courses; junior programmes from age ten
- Jet skis, flyboarding, K1 Top Cat catamaran sailing with or without a skipper, parasailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards
- Raaya, a private yacht with two en-suite and two further cabins for up to six guests, for day trips or overnight charters; Champagne sunset cruises, dolphin trips and traditional Maldivian line fishing from a dhoni, the local wooden boat
- Gulhifushi, a private picnic island reached by sail or kayak, for swimming, reef snorkelling and a beach barbecue
- A Technogym fitness centre with personal trainers, beach yoga and meditation, Maldivian and Thai cooking classes and sessions with the resort photographers
- Marine biology talks, coral-frame planting for reef restoration and garden walks on native plants; tennis is played on the courts of neighbouring Anantara Veli
For children
There is no kids’ club on the island itself, but young guests can join Dhoni Kids’ Club on neighbouring Anantara Dhigu, with a daily programme, indoor and outdoor play areas, a treehouse, a climbing wall and two traditional dhoni boats fitted out for play. Teenagers have their own space there with a games console, pool, table football and air hockey.
Restaurants & bars
Naladhu has one restaurant; every other meal is served wherever and whenever guests like, and nine more restaurants wait on the neighbouring islands.
- The Living Room — beachfront restaurant with modern international cooking, breakfast at any hour and a glass-walled cellar of rare wines, paired by the sommelier
- Cultural Dining — Malaafaiy, a ceremonial dinner in the coconut grove with a boduberu drum procession, Maldivian savoury and sweet dishes, fresh coconut water and stories of island customs (on request)
- Intimate Dining Affairs — private dinners set up anywhere on the island (on request)
- In-Villa Dining — round-the-clock dining in the house
- Cooking classes — Maldivian and Thai cuisine (book a day ahead)
Swimming
Fine white-sand beaches and a lagoon with a house reef surround the island. Instead of a shared pool, every house has its own infinity pool — 8 m, or 12 m at the residence.
