Kudafushi Resort & Spa

About this hotel

General information

Kudafushi Resort & Spa has the small island of Kudafushi in Raa Atoll to itself, and the resort is happy to call it tiny. White sand and a turquoise lagoon frame the island; villas sit either among greenery a few steps from the beach or out over the water, and the restaurants, pool bar, spa and dive centre are all within an easy walk.

The resort is set up as much for couples as for families, with a kids’ club, a yoga pavilion, tennis and padel courts, a long list of water sports and diving on the atoll’s reefs. Stays are all-inclusive only, in two versions — full All-Inclusive and the lighter Soft All-Inclusive — both covering meals and drinks. A doctor is on call around the clock on the island.

Location

Kudafushi lies in Raa Atoll in the north of the Maldives. From Velana International Airport in Malé the resort is reached by seaplane in roughly 45 minutes, depending on the operator’s schedule, or by a domestic flight of about 30 minutes to Ifuru followed by a 25-minute speedboat ride. The transfer from Malé is mandatory and is arranged by the resort.

Spa

K-Spa works with natural ingredients such as avocado, seaweed, spices and aloe vera. There are eight couples’ treatment rooms, two single rooms and a separate room for foot massage, manicures and pedicures, plus a shared sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi and relaxation lounge. The menu runs from massages, wraps and scrubs to a herbal Ritual of Bath, in-villa treatments and massage classes on request; products with natural active ingredients are sold at the spa reception.

Sports & leisure

Life on Kudafushi centres on the sea, though it does not stop there.

  • Diving with Dive Kudafushi, a PADI 5 Star dive resort on the south jetty: small-group or private dives across more than 50 protected reefs in Raa Atoll, home to dolphins, mantas and turtles, house-reef and night dives, PADI courses and nitrox
  • Snorkelling on the coral gardens of the house reef right off the resort, group trips to a neighbouring island’s reef, and encounters with turtles, mantas and nurse sharks
  • Water sports: catamaran sailing, water-skiing and mono-skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing with instructors, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, jet-skiing, banana rides and fun tubes
  • Yoga at the ocean-view K-Yoga pavilion: daily classes for all levels, meditation and pranayama, yin and kriyā yoga, Navakarana Vinyāsa set to Sanskrit chanting, prenatal and partner yoga, private sessions
  • Tennis and padel courts, a football pitch and a complimentary fitness centre
  • Boat trips: sunset cruises, dolphin spotting, a desert-island escape, sandbank picnics, 4- or 8-hour big-game fishing, sunset bottom-line fishing aboard a traditional dhoni and visits to a nearby local island
  • Stargazing cinema nights and the Leisure House with indoor games, board games and a library
For children

The Little Bubbles Club is open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, with supervised activities in a comfortable, safe setting. Professional babysitting is arranged through the club with at least 24 hours’ notice, and a sitter for children under three is available at a charge. Young divers can take their first breaths underwater on the PADI Bubblemaker programme at the dive centre.

Restaurants & bars

Three restaurants and a bar cover the island, with private dinners on the beach or in the villa and floating breakfasts served in the pool villas’ own pools.

  • De’ North Sail — the main restaurant, with buffets at breakfast, lunch and dinner, international and local dishes, outdoor tables facing the ocean, Maldivian cuisine every Saturday and themed dinners on other nights
  • Olive Me — Mediterranean cooking and pizza on the east beach, dinner under the stars and wines from around the world
  • Sea Edge — Asian cuisine at dinner, and sunset aperitifs earlier in the evening
  • Juju Bar — the pool bar beside the infinity pool, with cocktails all day, fresh fruit shakes, shisha and cigars on spacious outdoor decks
Swimming

A white-sand beach and a calm lagoon surround the island. The beach villas open onto their own stretch of shore, the water villas have direct steps into the lagoon and the pool villas add a private pool. A shared infinity pool sits beside Juju Bar, and the coral gardens of the house reef can be snorkelled straight from the resort.
