Kudadoo Maldives Private Island

About this hotel

General information

Kudadoo Maldives Private Island is a tiny private island in Lhaviyani Atoll with just 15 residences, all set over the water. Its heart is The Retreat, a two-storey pavilion above the lagoon that holds the restaurant, bar, spa, gym and boutique. The gently sloping roof carries 984 solar panels, enough to run the whole resort: Kudadoo is entirely solar-powered. Timber comes from responsibly managed forests in Canada, New Zealand and Indonesia, drinking water is bottled in glass on a nearby sister island, and plastic straws and cutlery have no place here.

The resort works on its “Anything. Anytime. Anywhere.” principle: meals, drinks, spa treatments, water sports, diving and excursions are included without limits, and a personal butler, on call around the clock, shapes each day. The island can also be booked in its entirety — for a couple, a family or a company retreat.

Location

Kudadoo lies in Lhaviyani Atoll. After passport control at Velana International Airport in Malé, the resort team meets guests and takes them to a private lounge; from there a seaplane flight of about 40 minutes lands right beside the island. Private seaplane transfers can be arranged on request.

Spa

Sulha Spa occupies the upper level of The Retreat, suspended above the ocean, and treatments are unlimited. Its pride is Lonu Cave, the country’s first Himalayan salt chamber, lined with mineral salt more than a thousand years old; a session of breathing the salt air is followed by a warm salt-stone massage. There is also unlimited use of the sauna and steam room, and a wellness ambassador builds personal programmes around traditional therapies.

Sports & leisure

Nearly everything on the island is included, and the butler arranges the day around each guest.

  • Unlimited guided diving and snorkelling: reefs with turtles, sharks and rays, scooter dives among grey reef sharks, stingrays, eagle rays, mobulas and Napoleon wrasse, and visits to turtle resting and feeding spots; PADI Discover Scuba and certification courses at extra cost
  • Unlimited water sports: jet skis, including safaris with private dining on a deserted sandbank, rides to a manta point and to “Turtle Airport”, dolphin trips, speedboat outings to nearby lagoons, stand-up paddleboards and kiteboarding lessons
  • Excursions without time limits: sailing, picnics on deserted sandbanks and sunset dolphin trips; Dream Island, a nearby sandbank, is set up for private picnics
  • Bella, a Princess 55 flybridge yacht, for manta and whale-shark searches, island picnics, Champagne under the stars or transfers between the group’s resorts; at extra cost
  • A gym with a personal trainer and a fitness coordinator, guided yoga and meditation wherever and whenever guests like, and tennis and padel courts
  • A resident marine biologist who talks about manta rays and joins guests on snorkelling and dive trips
Restaurants & bars

Food is cooked to order at any hour and served wherever guests wish, with menus adapted to dietary needs and preferences.

  • Keyolhu Restaurant at The Retreat — the main restaurant, facing the ocean, with classic favourites and fine cooking from breakfast to dinner
  • The Retreat Bar — cocktails and mocktails made with freshly pressed juices and house-made syrups
  • Kudadoo Bar — light bites between meals, by the pool or at the bar
  • Cheese and Wine Cellar — 80 included wine labels and a choice of Champagnes, a cheese room with dozens of cheeses and cured meats, and a sommelier for pairings; the owner’s private collection of great French wines is charged separately
  • Destination dining — picnics on Dream Island, candlelit dinners on the beach, jungle dinners or dinner under the stars on the residence deck
  • In-Residence Dining — meals in the residence at any hour
