Kagi Maldives Resort & Spa

About this hotel

General information

Kagi Maldives Resort & Spa has the island of Kagi to itself, at the northern tip of North Malé Atoll, following the Maldivian principle of one island, one resort. The island is small — about 4.2 hectares — yet it is fringed by almost 700 metres of white beach and wrapped in a 360-degree house reef. The architecture draws on Zen thinking: natural materials, quiet lines, nothing showy. Its most striking building is The Nourishing Complex, a two-storey dining pavilion set over the ocean.

The resort is built around the idea of a pure life — a balance of health and joy, served by the Baani spa, yoga, light cooking and the sea right at the door. Guests of all ages are welcome. Every villa, on the beach or over the water, has its own pool facing the Indian Ocean. Stays are offered on bed and breakfast, half board, full board or the Premium All Inclusive plan, which covers drinks, dine-around lunches, a sunset cruise, kayaks and snorkelling.

Location

Kagi lies at the northern tip of North Malé Atoll. From Velana International Airport in Malé the transfer takes 15 minutes by seaplane plus a 3–5-minute boat ride, or 60 minutes by speedboat; a private yacht can also be arranged. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, and while they wait guests can use the resort's lounge at the seaplane terminal; speedboats run by day and into the evening.

Spa

The Baani Spa takes its name from the Dhivehi word for an ocean swell. Its approach is holistic — nature, sound, nutrition, bodywork, beauty, mindfulness and movement — and the menu follows three stages: release stress, restore balance, regain momentum. The complex has four over-water treatment rooms looking out to sea, a sauna and steam rooms, a hair and beauty salon, a yoga studio for meditation set to live sound, and a boutique with Baani's own skincare and aroma oils. The signature ritual opens with a cleansing and works with aromatic essences and herbal infusions; the spa also partners with the natural skincare brand Epicuren Discovery.

Sports & leisure

The reef comes first on Kagi, but the programme goes well beyond it.

  • Diving with MSTS, a PADI 5 Star dive centre: PADI courses in several languages, try dives for beginners, nitrox courses, manta encounters, shark-filled channel dives, overhangs hung with soft corals and fluorescent night dives
  • A house reef all the way round the island: turtles, rays, reef sharks and moray eels, and after dark nurse sharks, lobsters and octopus; it is reached from the beach, the jetties or straight down the villa steps, and after a welcome dive guests may explore it with a buddy; boat snorkelling trips too
  • A water sports centre at The Beach Hut: kayaks, including glass-bottom ones, stand-up paddleboards, stepper boards, wing boards and windsurfing with beginner lessons
  • Excursions: sandbank picnics, sunset cruises with dolphins, traditional Maldivian and sport fishing, and the resort's yacht for a private day at sea
  • An over-water gym with Precor equipment, complimentary group stretching, yoga and aqua aerobics, and private training — functional, strength, HIIT, circuit and kettlebell; yoga on the beach or over the water
  • A pickleball court (a racquet game mixing tennis, badminton and table tennis), pétanque, an entertainment room with billiards, table football and table tennis, board games and books
  • Weekly unplugged music sessions, movie nights and cultural evenings; Kagi Memories photographers; a clinic with a resident doctor; and a coral nursery run with the dive centre to replant the reef
For children

For younger guests the resort runs outdoor activities and creative play, from sandcastle building to coconut painting. The entertainment room has games for children, and the dive centre teaches diving to children from the age of eight in calm, shallow lagoons.

Restaurants & bars

Kagi's restaurants and bars gather around the two-storey pavilion over the ocean, the pool and the beach.

  • Noo Faru — the main restaurant: international cooking at breakfast, lunch and dinner, looking over the pool and the ocean
  • Nonna — Italian à la carte on the upper floor above Noo Faru, with ocean panoramas, a long wine list and a premium range of whisky and rum; open several evenings a week
  • Ke-Un — the signature à la carte restaurant with ocean views, cooking a fusion of the Pacific Ring of Fire from Hawaii and Thailand to Japan and Peru
  • Spa Corner — light lunches inside the Baani spa: raw dishes and greens, sushi and fresh juices
  • Ufaa Bar — beside the infinity pool, with drinks from morning to midnight and snacks through the day
  • The Beach Hut — a beach bar for crafted cocktails with toes in the sand
  • Wine Cellar — Old and New World labels, from which guests pick a bottle for any dinner
  • Round-the-clock in-villa dining, a chef's table dinner in the herb garden, romantic dinners under the stars and sandbank picnics
Swimming

A white-sand beach of almost 700 metres runs round the island, and the coral reef comes close to shore, so snorkelling starts a few steps from the sand. A breakwater shelters the lagoon in front of the over-water villas and keeps the water calm. Ufaa Bar sits beside an infinity pool looking out to the ocean, every villa has a pool of its own, and the over-water villas have steps straight down into the sea.

Rooms

The villas come in four categories, on the beach or over the lagoon and reef, and each has a private infinity plunge pool facing the Indian Ocean. A calm contemporary design is warmed by Maldivian touches, and every villa sleeps up to three adults.

In each room

Every villa has an over-size king bed, veneer floors, air conditioning and a ceiling fan, a sitting area, a minibar, a Nespresso machine, tea, a telephone, IPTV, a Bluetooth soundbar, a safe, a hairdryer, free Wi-Fi, an air-conditioned bathroom with double sinks and shower plus an outdoor bathroom with tub and shower, biodegradable toiletries, life jackets, beach towels and a beach bag, a deck with pool and loungers, daily housekeeping and turndown.

Beach Pool Villa

A beach villa with its own stretch of white sand: a large deck with a pool a few steps from the sea, and a bathroom that flows outdoors with a rain shower and a deep tub. Sleeps up to three adults.

Ocean Pool Villa

An over-water villa with panoramic ocean and sunset views: a light-filled room, a verandah with a plunge pool and steps straight down to the house reef. Sleeps up to three adults.

Lagoon Pool Villa

A villa over the turquoise lagoon, with an over-water terrace and pool from which guests can slip straight into the water. Sleeps up to three adults.

Over Water Pool Villa

A villa above calm lagoon water along the deep edge of the house reef, sheltered by a breakwater: a light bedroom, an indoor-outdoor living space, a deck with an infinity plunge pool and direct access to the water. Sleeps up to three adults.
