About this hotel
General information
Joali Maldives opened in November 2018 on Muravandhoo, an island in Raa Atoll thick with tropical greenery and edged by empty white beaches. Its pool villas fall into two worlds: raised on stilts above the clear lagoon, or set along the shore in the shade of coconut palms and garden.
Art is part of the resort’s identity — there is a gallery devoted to Maldivian art, and one of the restaurants was designed by architect Noriyoshi Muramatsu. Dining covers several cuisines, there is an ocean-view bar, a spa and fitness centre, and a full programme of water sports and excursions for adults and children. A library, boutique, concierge and laundry service are also on hand, and the resort arranges weddings and honeymoon programmes.
Location
Muravandhoo lies in Raa Atoll in the northern Maldives, around 45 minutes by seaplane from Malé airport. Alternatives are a 45-minute domestic flight to Ifuru followed by 25 minutes by boat, or a 35-minute flight to Dharavandhoo and an hour by boat.
Spa
The ESPA spa offers a broad menu of treatments rooted in Eastern and Western traditions, including treatments designed specifically for children.
Sports & leisure
The outdoor pool faces the ocean, as does the fitness centre, and there is a yoga pavilion and floodlit tennis courts. The water sports centre offers waterskiing, wakeboarding, parasailing, diving and snorkelling — including outings with a marine biologist, with equipment available on site. For a sense of place, there are Her Kitchen cooking classes, programmes on Maldivian culture and traditions, and a range of excursions.
For children
Children have treasure hunts, Maldivian storytelling evenings and cooking lessons, and the spa has treatments designed especially for younger guests.
Restaurants & bars
Dining is spread across several restaurants, a bar and a wine cellar.
- Vandhoo — gastronomic restaurant serving Southeast Asian, Mediterranean and Chinese dishes, with its own wine cellar
- Saoke — Japanese cuisine in a building designed by Noriyoshi Muramatsu
- Bellinis — Italian bar and restaurant with a menu by Michelin-starred chef Theodor Falser, known for its bellinis and house limoncello
- Tuh’u — Levantine cooking under the open sky, on the sand beneath lit palms
- Mura — bar with gazebos, water features and ocean views: light bites by day, live music in the evening
- La Joie — café for chocolate, ice cream and desserts
- Wine Cellar — a curated selection of wines from around the world
In-villa dining is available.
