General information
Opened in December 2021 on the secluded island of Bodufushi in Raa Atoll, Joali Being was the first resort in the Maldives devoted entirely to wellbeing. Everything follows from that idea: spaces for rest and exercise are woven into the untouched island landscape, and at its centre sits a wellness complex offering diagnostics, specialist consultations and programmes built on advanced techniques.
The kitchen works with fresh seafood and clean, organic produce. Villas have private pools and ocean views, and each guest is looked after by a personal butler known as a Jadugar — Maldivian for “magician”. Between treatments there is diving, time out at sea or an hour in the library; a boutique, concierge and laundry complete the picture.
Location
Bodufushi lies in Raa Atoll, about 40 minutes by seaplane from Malé International Airport. Alternatively, a 35-minute domestic flight to Ifuru regional airport is followed by a 20-minute boat ride.
Spa
The wellness complex brings together the Areka spa with 39 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy hall with steam rooms, a sauna and a Russian banya, a sound therapy room, a phytotherapy centre, a modern gym and the Aktar boutique, whose products are made from local herbs, spices and essential oils. Programmes are built around four pillars — mind, skin, microbiome and energy — and nutritionists, physiotherapists, naturopaths and trainers devise an individual plan for each guest after consultation.
Sports & leisure
The outdoor pool is laid out over three levels. Beyond the fitness centre there is an overwater yoga and meditation pavilion, tennis courts and a wellness learning centre. Water sports and diving centres operate alongside a sea turtle rehabilitation centre and a coral restoration programme, and guests can join boat trips, fishing, cooking classes and island-hopping by yacht or traditional dhoni.
Restaurants & bars
Flow, the main restaurant, is an interactive space in three parts: Plantae for vegetarian and vegan cooking, Su for fresh fish and seafood, and B’Well for the chef’s signature dishes. Mojo, a beach restaurant and bar on a three-tiered terrace beside the pool, suits a light lunch, a cocktail or a pot of tea. Private dining and in-villa dining are available.
Swimming
White-sand beaches circle the island, with a house reef just offshore.
Rooms
The 68 villas are set in gardens by the beach or over the lagoon. Their contemporary design sits easily in the landscape, pool terraces face the Indian Ocean, and every villa comes with a personal butler.
Villas have air conditioning, a ceiling fan, TV, telephone, Wi-Fi, a safe, a minibar, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer and toiletries.
Ocean Pool Villa
