About this hotel
General information
Huvafen Fushi occupies a small island of the same name in North Malé Atoll, roughly 350 by 150 metres and walkable end to end in 10–15 minutes. It holds just 46 bungalows and pavilions on the beach and over the water, each with its own pool. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the resort is best known for two unusual spaces: a spa treatment room set beneath the sea on the reef, and a wine cellar dug eight metres underground.
The mood is intimate and unhurried. Every guest is looked after from arrival by a thakuru, the Maldivian personal butler, who handles restaurant, spa and excursion bookings, while the Dream Maker concierge can arrange private dinners or islet trips before the stay begins. Stays include breakfast, with half board or full board available at booking. Wi-Fi is free across the island, buggies run on request, and the resort clinic has a doctor on call around the clock.
Location
The island sits in North Malé Atoll, 26 km from Velana International Airport in Malé, about 30 minutes away by speedboat. Guests are met in the arrivals hall and taken to the resort’s own airport lounge. Standard transfers are shared with other arriving guests; a private speedboat or yacht can be arranged at any hour on request.
Spa
Huvafen Spa has an underwater and an overwater wing: an underwater couples’ treatment room with panoramic reef views, where clownfish and stingrays drift past the glass, two overwater couples’ rooms and four single rooms, a manicure and pedicure room, separate steam rooms and saunas for men and women, and a boutique. All therapists are trained in the method of a renowned massage expert that blends deep-tissue and trigger-point work with Thai stretches and energy work. Underwater signatures include a 90-minute sleep ritual built on reflexology and shiatsu. Treatments use Natura Bissé, Aromatherapy Associates and Obsidian for men, alongside hand and foot care developed with a London nail specialist and the resort’s own Huvafen Iconics rituals. Hatha yoga takes place on the beach or in an overwater pavilion.
Sports & leisure
A house reef rings the island about 25 metres offshore and can be reached straight from the beach; snorkel gear is free, and the FLOAT dive team runs guided snorkels, including at night. The PADI-accredited dive centre offers try dives, courses up to advanced level, nitrox training and daily dhoni trips to the surrounding reefs and thilas, or underwater pinnacles. Marine biologists from Oceanpedia lead manta excursions, coral adoption and reef-restoration sessions.

Private dinners can be set at a table sunk into the sand, beside the pool with a seafood spread, on a sandbank or a rock island, with a Middle Eastern menu, or underwater beside the reef as Immerse… Latitude 4°.
Swimming
White-sand beaches and a lagoon with its own reef surround the island. At its centre is an illuminated infinity pool, and tucked among the trees is Lonu Veyo, a circular saltwater pool dense enough to float in effortlessly. Every bungalow and pavilion has a private freshwater pool, and guests can be taken out to a sandbank for time alone.
Rooms
The 46 bungalows and pavilions sit on the beach and over the lagoon, with a 500-metre jetty reaching the furthest pavilion. Bungalow guests have a thakuru, while pavilions and houses come with full butler service, and the largest are fitted with Heveya organic latex mattresses and pillows.
Each has a private freshwater pool, a deck with loungers, a daybed, Diptyque bath products, Apple TV, a Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker, an IDD telephone, a private bar, an espresso machine, air conditioning and a ceiling fan.
