About this hotel
General information
Furaveri Maldives occupies the whole of Furaveri, a natural coral island of 23 hectares in Raa Atoll — some 750 metres long and 400 wide, thick with tropical greenery and ringed by beach. Around it runs one of the finest house reefs in the Maldives, a few strokes from the shore. The island holds 169 villas and residences set in gardens, on the sand and over the lagoon, along with seven restaurants and four bars.
The resort rests on three ideas — nature, Maldivian culture and wellbeing. Guests can take tea with a local family, try traditional Maldivian dishes and join a cooking class, while the Wellness Village is laid out like an island hamlet. Stays are offered on bed and breakfast, half board, full board or a Premium All Inclusive plan that runs across the island's restaurants.
Location
Furaveri lies in Raa Atoll in the north of the Maldives, about 150 km from Malé. From Velana International Airport the seaplane takes around 45 minutes and flies in daylight only; guests wait in the resort's own lounge at the seaplane terminal. The alternative is a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo or Ifuru followed by a 45-minute speedboat ride arranged by the resort.
Spa
The Wellness Village is built as a small Maldivian village of wood and bamboo pavilions, combining Asian holistic practice, traditional Maldivian treatments and Ayurveda. The menu runs from signature rituals and the Ayurvedic Abhyanga and Shirodhara to a Javanese lulur scrub with turmeric, baths infused with herbs, essential oils or rose petals, and wellness journeys pairing Ayurvedic treatments with yoga. Products are organic, light and free of heavy scents and chemicals. There is also hydrotherapy, a beauty salon, yoga with a resident instructor and meditation.
Sports & leisure
The reef and the open ocean are Furaveri's main draw, though the programme goes well beyond them.
- Diving with Dive Club Maldives: the house reef plus boat trips to manta cleaning and feeding stations, the protected Hanifaru Bay, Bodufaru and the Maamunagau lagoon; Discover Scuba dives for beginners and the PADI Scuba Diver course
- Water sports with Reyla Adventures: sunset catamaran sailing, jet skis and a jet car, Seabob, a glass-bottom canoe, stand-up paddling with lessons, banana and tube rides, kneeboarding
- Fishing trips including big-game fishing, and speedboat charters for snorkelling, dolphin watching and sandbank outings
- Ocean Escape — the 16.8-metre Fura Cruiser motor yacht with two cabins for four guests, a saloon, an upper deck with a grill and a swim platform, chartered for private voyages
- A fitness centre, tennis and badminton courts, private yoga sessions
- Walks through the chef's garden that supplies the kitchens, movie nights, live music, cultural shows and a weekly fire show at Udhares Bar
For children
Koamas Kids Club runs daily programmes for children aged 4 to 11, and the dive centre offers the Bubble Maker programme as a first taste of scuba. Babysitting can be arranged on request, and the resort's seaplane lounge has a play area with activity books for young travellers.
Restaurants & bars
Furaveri's seven restaurants and its bars are spread around the island, from the main dining room by the pool to pavilions over the reef.
- Jaafaiy — the main restaurant beside the pool and bar: buffets at breakfast, lunch and dinner with themed nights — grill, Italian and Maldivian
- Aqua Restaurant & Bar — a seafood restaurant on the beach in a mushroom-shaped pavilion, cooking the catch landed each morning by fishermen from nearby islands — lobster, tuna, mahi-mahi — with champagne and cocktails
- Raiyvilla — the signature restaurant on the island's western tip, serving Asian fusion with the sunset in view
- Teppan de Oishi — Japanese: teppanyaki cooked on the griddle in front of guests, sushi and sashimi
- Amigos — an over-water Mexican restaurant at the reef's edge, with Mexican-inspired plates, margaritas and fusion cocktails
- Ocean Spice — Indian vegetarian cooking on the beach
- Olives & Vines — Mediterranean and international dishes on stilts over the water, with ocean panoramas
- Udhares Bar — a spacious, family-friendly bar by the pool with cocktails, an à la carte menu, theme nights and live music
- Floating breakfasts in the villa pool, lobster barbecues on the beach, the four-course candlelit Jazeera dinner, the traditional Maldivian Malaafaiy meal and Maldivian Fridays
Swimming
A natural white-sand beach circles the entire island, and the house reef begins a few strokes from shore, so snorkelling starts straight from the beach. The main pool and its sun deck sit beside Udhares Bar, a water hammock hangs over the lagoon in front of Raiyvilla, and steps lead from the over-water villa decks straight into the lagoon. Towels are provided at the pool and on the beach.
