Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

About this hotel

General information

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island spreads across two natural islands in South Ari Atoll, Rangali Finolhu and Rangali, linked by a 500 m footbridge over the lagoon. Rangali Finolhu is the livelier, more social of the two, with the teens’ club and the tennis court; quieter Rangali keeps its water villas for adults and teenagers aged 16 and over. The resort is part of Hilton’s Conrad Hotels & Resorts.

Its best-known addresses are below the waterline: Ithaa, the world’s first undersea restaurant, set 5 m down among the coral gardens, and The Muraka, a two-level residence with a bedroom beneath the ocean surface. Whale sharks and manta rays are seen in the surrounding waters all year. The dive centre is a PADI Eco Center running a coral restoration programme, hydroponic gardens supply greens to the kitchens, bars and spa, and once a week women from neighbouring islands cook a Maldivian dinner for guests.

Location

The resort lies in South Ari Atoll, 30 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport in Malé (flights daily between 6:00 and 15:30), or reached by domestic flight and speedboat; a private speedboat crossing of around 4–5 hours is also possible. Resort hosts meet guests at the airport, help with check-in and take them to Conrad’s own seaplane lounge.

Spa

There are two spas: the Spa Retreat over the lagoon, a resort within the resort with its own wellness restaurant, Mandhoo, and a second spa set in the island’s greenery. Treatments combine Maldivian rituals built on local ingredients with contemporary techniques — a fully bespoke massage, a massage for expectant and new mothers, an ISUN body polish of essential oils and crystals, singing-bowl sound healing, an evening ritual under the stars on the Spa Retreat’s open deck and half-day journeys for couples. Private steam and hydrotherapy are part of the offer, alongside a beauty salon for manicures and hair styling.

Sports & leisure

OCEAN Dive Center, a PADI Eco Center, teaches PADI courses from a first dive on the house reef up to Advanced Open Water and runs trips across South Ari Atoll. Marine biologists give talks before outings to the whale sharks that live here year-round and to the manta rays about an hour away by boat, and lead turtle-reef safaris, nurse-shark snorkels, night snorkelling and coral adoption in the nursery.

  • Water sports — catamaran sailing, kayaks (glass-bottomed ones too), Seabob, towable inflatables, water-skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, paddleboarding, underwater scooters, hydro-flight boards, parasailing and guided jet-ski tours
  • A boat with a large glass bottom for reef viewing without getting wet
  • Cruising — charters of the four-cabin yacht Majesty 62, sunrise and sunset cruises, dolphin trips by traditional dhoni or speedboat
  • Big-game fishing for dogtooth tuna, wahoo and giant trevally, and traditional sunset handline fishing
  • Two 24-hour gyms, one on each island, a tennis court and a padel court
  • Sunrise and sunset yoga, aerial yoga in silk hammocks and personal training
  • Nature walks on Rangali Finolhu and boat tours of the lagoon between the islands
For children

Majaa Explorers Hub takes children aged 3–11 (younger ones with an adult) for ocean discovery, island sports and games, local crafts, junior chef workshops and its own outdoor splash park. Teenagers aged 12–16 have the Furaavaru Teens’ Club on Rangali Finolhu, with water sports, marine biology and conservation projects, sessions with local artists and a space of their own. An interactive treasure-hunt trail runs across the island, there is a children’s pool and a playground, and babysitting can be arranged.

Restaurants & bars

Twelve restaurants and bars, plus round-the-clock in-villa dining.

  • Ithaa — undersea restaurant 5 m down beneath an acrylic vault: breakfast, set lunch and dinner menus, and visiting hours
  • Atoll Market — international breakfasts and dinners with live cooking stations
  • Sunset Grill — over-water pavilion with six balconies: locally caught seafood and Angus and Wagyu beef, some of it dry-aged in house
  • KOKO — open-air Japanese teppan grill along a long bar, with sake
  • Ufaa — Chinese: handmade dim sum, hand-pulled noodles, Peking duck and a beachside hot pot with reef fish
  • Vilu Restaurant & Bar — Italian sharing plates over the bay, breakfasts and a cocktail bar
  • Mandhoo — over-water restaurant at the Spa Retreat with light, produce-led cooking

  • Cheese & Wine Bar — cheeses, fondue and tapas in a room floored with black volcanic sand
  • Aaraha Champagne Bar — champagne by the glass with caviar and lobster canapés over the water at sunset
  • Rangali Bar — by the main pool, sand underfoot, a live band and DJ every night and themed evenings
  • Rantheli Beach Club — adults-only beach club with robata-grilled Japanese bites and cocktails
  • Private beach dinners and in-villa dining
Swimming

White-sand beaches and a turquoise lagoon ring both islands, and guided snorkels on the house reef turn up octopus, moray eels, lionfish and reef sharks. The main pool beside Rangali Bar looks over the lagoon, the infinity pool at Rantheli Beach Club is for adults only, and children have a pool of their own. Steps lead from the water villas straight into the lagoon.
