About this hotel
General information
Baglioni Resort Maldives occupies the whole of Maagau, a green island of white beaches and turquoise lagoon in Dhaalu Atoll. It belongs to the Italian group Baglioni Hotels & Resorts and is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Villas sit on the beach among tropical planting or on stilts above the lagoon, and the architecture pairs traditional Maldivian forms and local materials with a quiet Italian polish.
The resort runs exclusively on its own all-inclusive plan, which covers the restaurants, premium drinks, in-villa dining from 6am to midnight, a minibar restocked daily, non-motorised water sports, tennis, yoga, the gym, the kids' club and evening entertainment. The Italian accent shows most clearly at the table and in the wine list. The island makes its own drinking water from seawater, and solar panels supply a large share of its electricity.
Location
Maagau lies in Dhaalu Atoll, in the central Maldives, and is reached only by seaplane: the flight from Velana International Airport in Malé takes about 45 minutes. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so international arrivals need to land between 06:00 and 15:30. Occasionally the seaplane touches down at a neighbouring island, about 8 minutes from the resort by speedboat. The local island of Rinbudhoo is 10 minutes away by boat.
Spa
Aura Spa has six treatment rooms – three singles, two for couples and a dedicated Ayurveda room – and the couples' suite comes with a bathtub and its own relaxation area. The menu runs from Baglioni signature face and body rituals to hot-stone, Balinese, deep-tissue, aromatherapy and detox massages, the Maldivian Theyo Demun massage with warm coconut oil, the Kaashi Rub coconut scrub with a honey and papaya wrap, Ayurvedic abhyanga and shirodhara, and manicures and pedicures. Facials use Italian products, and treatments can be taken in the villa. The spa is open daily from 9am to 8pm.
Sports & leisure
The house reef begins just off the beach: guests swim out from the shore with complimentary snorkelling gear and often meet stingrays and sea turtles among the corals. Instructors at the Maagau Dive Centre take beginners and experienced divers out in groups or privately. Kayaks, pedal boats and paddleboards are included in the stay, and for speed there are jet skis, water-skiing, wakeboarding and tubing.
- snorkelling with whale sharks, which are seen in Dhaalu Atoll all year round
- dolphin-watching trips, a day on a sandbank and Maldivian-style fishing at sunset
- catamaran sailing, sunset and starlight cruises, and a dhoni trip with a barbecue
- a guided 90-minute visit to the local island of Rinbudhoo
- a tennis court open from 8am to 10pm, with complimentary equipment and, in high season, coaching
- an ocean-view gym open from 5am to 11pm, with daily group sessions and a personal trainer
- a yoga pavilion in the greenery, daily group yoga and meditation, and private sessions at sunrise or sunset
- open-air cinema on the beach, the Friday Holhuashi evening of Maldivian food and music, bodu beru drumming nights and beach parties
For children
Baglioni Kids Club welcomes children aged 4–12 daily from 10am to 6pm. The programme covers Zumba, water aerobics, junior yoga, pool games, treasure hunts, island and marine-life explorations and gardening, plus creative workshops – drawing, shell art, coral wind bells, cookie decorating and gelato-making. Teenagers have their own programme of transparent kayaks, shallow-reef snorkelling, paddleboarding, futsal, table tennis, chess, PlayStation and cinema under the stars. The spa has a junior menu of massages, manicures and pedicures for ages 5–12, there is children's yoga, and the dive centre runs PADI Bubblemaker, a first taste of scuba at a depth of up to 2 m.

Every restaurant is part of the all-inclusive plan, and gluten-free and other dietary needs are catered for.

Swimming
White sand beaches and a shallow lagoon ring the island; beach villas open straight onto the sand, and water villa terraces give straight onto the lagoon. The house reef starts right off the shore, so no boat is needed to reach the corals. There is a pool beside Mirto Pool Bar, and several villa categories come with a private freshwater pool.
Rooms
Ten villa categories, set on the beach among tropical greenery or on stilts above the lagoon and linked to the island by a wooden jetty, range from the Beach Villa to the three-bedroom Grand Baglioni Maldives Villa. Every villa has a private terrace with sun loungers facing the ocean.
Each villa has air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, a safe, a hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers, an all-inclusive minibar restocked daily, nightly turndown, a wake-up service and a welcome bottle of wine.
