Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas

About this hotel

General information

Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas has the island of Kihavah Huravalhi to itself, in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Its 80 villas and residences sit either among the island’s tropical greenery on the beach or out over the lagoon, and every one has its own pool. A house reef counted among the best known in the Maldives rings the island, and Hanifaru Bay — scene of the world’s largest gatherings of manta rays — is close by.

The resort’s signature venues share an overwater complex. Below the waterline, SEA pairs an underwater restaurant with a wine cellar, its windows framing reef sharks, turtles and shoals of fish; above it, SKY combines a bar with the only overwater observatory in the Maldives and the country’s most powerful telescope. The spa also stands over the lagoon, and each villa has a Villa Host on call around the clock.

Location

Kihavah Huravalhi lies in Baa Atoll, a 35-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport in Malé. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so for guests landing in the Maldives after 15:30 the resort arranges a domestic flight instead. Hanifaru Bay is 20 minutes away by speedboat.

Spa

Anantara Spa stands over the water, with six treatment rooms, a relaxation deck with cold and warm plunge pools, infrared and Finnish saunas, a steam room and bath rituals. The menu runs from Thai massage to Ayurveda — shirodhara, and pizichil, in which warm oil is poured over the body — guided by a resident specialist, alongside energy healing, sound therapy and magnesium treatments, plus 3-, 5- and 7-day detox and longevity programmes with daily yoga and meditation. A studio for natural dry manicures and pedicures completes the picture, and visiting practitioners hold regular residencies. Open 10:00–20:00.

Sports & leisure

The dive centre runs PADI Discover Scuba dives and Open Water courses, though much of the house reef, including the Yellow Wall that drops to 25 m, is just as rewarding with a mask and snorkel. From May to November, the manta season, boats head out to Hanifaru Bay.

  • snorkelling with manta rays and nurse sharks, dolphin-spotting trips and sunset cruises
  • days aboard Ocean Whisperer, a 24-metre gulet, with private dining, and big-game fishing for sailfish, tuna and barracuda
  • jet skis, Seadart underwater scooters and kayaks, including transparent ones
  • a coral adoption programme and talks by the resident marine biologist
  • guided stargazing at the SKY observatory, open-air cinema, the Nala orchid garden and trips to the local island of Kudarikilu
  • Spice Spoons cooking classes in Maldivian, Thai, Indian and Japanese cuisine
  • padel with a coach, a tennis court, a gym, a Muay Thai ring with an instructor, a 9-metre climbing wall, billiards, volleyball, badminton, pétanque, table tennis and giant chess
  • daily yoga, private sessions and outdoor aerial yoga
For children

The Thiththi Boli Kids’ Club welcomes children aged 4–12 daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with themed days, island exploring and crafts led by qualified supervisors. Children from eight can join the marine biologist’s courses, which introduce snorkelling and diving; there are children’s and family boxing sessions, and the climbing wall is open from age eight. Babysitters trained in first aid look after little ones from three months.

Restaurants & bars

Four venues share the overwater complex, where a combined SEA.FIRE.SPICE.SKY menu serves one course in each; two more restaurants face the beach.

  • SEA — underwater restaurant and wine cellar: contemporary European cooking and caviar; dinner is adults-only except on Mondays and Thursdays
  • SKY — top-level bar for cocktails, tapas, rare rums and shisha, with the observatory
  • FIRE — teppanyaki with Peruvian and Japanese influences
  • SPICE — Asian cooking from an open kitchen over the water: tandoori, curries, wok dishes
  • Manzaru — Mediterranean and Italian dishes by the pool, with a pool bar by day
  • Plates — beachfront breakfasts with live stations, Maldivian and international dishes
  • Designer Dining and in-villa dining — private meals on request
Swimming

White-sand beaches edge the island, and the house reef is reached straight from the shore; overwater villas have steps down into the lagoon. Snorkelling gear, life jackets and kayaks are free to use. The main pool is at Manzaru, and every villa has a pool of its own.
