General information
The RuMa is a city hotel in the Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, a short distance from the Petronas Twin Towers. Its name is the Malay word for home, and the idea runs through the whole place: the closeness of a private house paired with polished, attentive hosting. The 253 rooms and suites are contemporary, with references to the city’s early history.
Malaysian culture is written into the building itself. Pillars modelled on the stilts of a traditional kampung house line the arrival corridor, the Kebayaku sculpture on the grand staircase honours the kebaya, a national costume, kelarai weave patterns repeat through the halls and antique balusters dress the lift lobby. A spiral staircase rises to ATAS, and the entire sixth floor is given over to the pool, spa and gym. The hotel holds Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification and a Gold rating under Malaysia’s Green Building Index; the pool is salt-treated rather than chlorinated and key cards are made of wood. Bilik meeting rooms, the Pavilion and the open-air Frangipani terrace host events for up to 140 guests.
Location
The hotel sits in the Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur’s business, shopping and entertainment district. The Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC are about 1 km away, KLCC Park and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre 500 m, and the Pavilion mall and Bukit Bintang 1.2 km. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is 58 km away, roughly an hour by car, and the hotel can arrange a private transfer; alternatively, the KLIA Express train runs to KL Sentral, about 20 minutes from the hotel by car.
Spa
UR SPA fills half of the sixth floor and opens onto the pool and lounge area. Its approach pairs modern science with ancient healing traditions: six treatment rooms in a pared-back tropical style, genderless treatments and bespoke organic formulations, with sessions ranging from 30-minute express treatments to full-day rituals. The spa is open daily from 10:00 to 21:00.
Sports & leisure
The 24-hour gym on the sixth floor is equipped by Technogym and sits beside the cantilevered pool and its sun deck. On request, the hotel arranges introductions to local crafts, including a workshop with a pewter maker.
For children
A separate children’s pool, 0.6 m deep, sits beside the main pool on the sixth floor.
Restaurants & bars
Dining at The RuMa revolves around modern Malaysian cooking, gin and afternoon tea, with in-room dining also available.
- ATAS — modern Malaysian cuisine on the mezzanine: an open kitchen for breakfast and lunch that becomes a show kitchen at dinner, with the VERANDAH terrace, a semi-private dining room and Sunday brunch
- SEVEN Lobby Bar — a light-filled conservatory off the lobby pouring 77 gins with a choice of seven tonics and a spice, herb or fruit garnish
- The LIBRARI — a lobby-level room of old Kuala Lumpur antiques, vintage magazines and books on culture, design and architecture, serving breakfast, light international dishes and afternoon tea until midnight
- SANTAI Pool Bar and Lounge — the sixth-floor poolside bar for cocktails, snacks with local flavours and night-time skyline views
Swimming
The 25-metre pool on the sixth floor cantilevers over the edge of the building with views across the city; the adult pool is 1.2 m deep and salt-treated. Black and gold tiling, chaise longues and daybeds on the sun deck and SANTAI bar alongside complete the scene; the pool is open daily from 08:00 to 21:00.
Rooms
The 253 rooms and suites are contemporary in style with local touches, most looking out over the city skyline or the Petronas Twin Towers. Many have a sliding floor-to-ceiling partition between bedroom and bathroom, plus an area for lounging, working and dining.
Each room has 330-thread-count Egyptian cotton linen, a smart TV with screen mirroring, multi-scene lighting, automated blackout blinds, international sockets and USB points, a Nespresso machine, a traditional tea set, a complimentary minibar, a safe, a bathtub with separate rain shower, twin basins and Wi-Fi.
