About this hotel
General information
The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi sits in a quiet private bay on Langkawi, its grounds covered by rainforest some ten million years old and edged by sandy beaches. The buildings follow the slope of the land and draw on Malay vernacular architecture and indigenous art; wide glass walls and natural materials blur the line between interior and forest, so wildlife can be watched up close from the room. Some villas sit on the beach, others over the water, looking out across the Andaman Sea towards the sunset.
The resort combines rainforest- and ocean-view rooms and suites with 29 villas, each with its own pool. There is The Ritz-Carlton Spa, home to the island's only hammam, four restaurants and bars — from a Chinese restaurant on the rocks above the sea to an adults-only bar over the water — and the Ritz Kids club. Near the entrance, the Walkway of Wishes invites guests to write a wish on a stone and place it in a fountain filled with water from Dayang Bunting lake, the subject of a local legend. The resort is Green Hotel Malaysia certified.
Location
The resort lies on Jalan Pantai Kok at Teluk Nibung, in the Pantai Kok area of Langkawi, about 10 km from Langkawi International Airport. There is no scheduled shuttle, but the resort arranges private car and van transfers; for guests of Kenari Villa and Mutiara Villa the return airport transfer is included.
Spa
The Ritz-Carlton Spa is set between rainforest and sea, and its highlight is Langkawi's only hammam. Outdoor vitality pools among the greenery are used before and after treatments, alongside a steam room, a plunge pool, a lap pool and separate men's and women's lounges. The menu pairs Ritz-Carlton signature treatments with rituals drawn from the healing traditions of local healers and midwives, using indigenous essential oils: the Mandi Bunga Inspired Ritual, a Malay flower bath with massage; the Mystical Ocean and Earth Ritual, a hot-stone massage with a marine mud wrap; and the Lulur Hammam Experience, combining a foam massage, marine mud, a scalp treatment and the steam room. The Elemental Wellness Journey moves through four sanctuaries themed on water, earth, fire and air. Facials, manicures and pedicures, men's treatments, kids' services and wellness programmes for weight management, detox and stress complete the offer.
Sports & leisure
A 24-hour fitness centre with cardio and strength equipment and free weights, plus a sauna and jacuzzi, an outdoor yoga deck, personal training and HIIT sessions. The resort offers tennis and watercraft rental. Signature experiences include a private sunrise kayak trip ending with a picnic on a secluded beach, a dawn rainforest walk to gather dew followed by a cleansing ritual and sound-bath meditation by the shore, cruises to beaches and coves on a private Lagoon 620 catamaran with a picnic from the chef, a programme on the area's natural and human history that ends with mangrove planting, a driftwood workshop, and a sea cucumber nursery where guests release sea cucumbers into the sea by kayak under the guidance of a marine biologist. The guest experience team plans rainforest eco-walks and waterfall hikes, and the resort hosts culinary collaborations and guest bar takeovers. Els Golf Club and Gunung Raya Golf Club are about 20 km and 26 km away.
For children
The Ritz Kids club runs activities rooted in Malaysia's nature and culture: painting a traditional Malay kite, a rainforest discovery walk collecting natural materials to decorate a photo frame, a pirate treasure hunt on a hidden beach and a Malaysian cooking class. The club has its own children's pool, and the spa offers treatments for children.
Restaurants & bars
Four restaurants and bars are joined by 24-hour in-room dining and several private dining formats.
- Langkawi Kitchen — Asian cooking with a focus on Malaysian flavours, three live kitchens in a room inspired by Borneo longhouses, set in the rainforest
- The Beach Grill — beachfront restaurant and bar by the main pool, serving seafood and cocktails beneath four conical bamboo-and-rattan pavilions modelled on a traditional Malay fish trap
- Hai Yan — Chinese cuisine on overwater decks raised on giant boulders, with panoramic sea views and private dining on request
- Horizon Lounge & Bar — adults-only overwater bar with an infinity pool, sunset cocktails, Asian small plates and DJ sets
- Private dining — a chef-hosted barbecue in the villa, romantic dinners in a gazebo in the garden or on the beach, and meals served on a traditional sampan boat by the shore
Swimming
The resort has its own beach in a private bay on the Andaman Sea. The main pool, The Beach Grill Pool, lies right by the sand; the Horizon infinity pool juts out over the sea beside the adults-only bar; and Ritz Kids has its own children's pool. Every villa has a private pool, and Beach Villa and Mutiara Villa open directly onto the beach.
