About this hotel
General information
The Danna Langkawi sits at Telaga Harbour by Pantai Kok, caught between jungle-clad hills and the Andaman Sea. Its architecture marries colonial formality with Mediterranean ease, and the interiors keep to a calm, neutral palette with bespoke furniture and four-poster beds. Depending on the wing, balconies look over the mountains, the yacht marina, the courtyard or the open sea.
There are 123 rooms, ranging from 60 m² rooms to a top-floor suite with its own pool, while down at the water's edge two types of beach villa come with private pools. The resort's centrepiece is a three-tiered infinity pool facing the Andaman Sea. The Danna is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and runs its own #DannaCare programme: less single-use plastic, careful water management, marine conservation with local partners and support for island communities.
Location
The resort lies in Telaga Harbour Park at Pantai Kok on Langkawi, in the state of Kedah, right beside the yacht marina. Langkawi International Airport is about 15 minutes away by car and Pantai Cenang beach about 25 minutes. The hotel runs airport transfers in an MPV, a BMW 7 Series or a BMW X1.
Spa
The Spa occupies the top floor, looking out over the green hills and the marina. It has five single and two couples' treatment rooms, and its treatments pair natural ingredients with modern formulations. The menu covers traditional Malay urut, Balinese and aromatherapy massage, pre-natal massage and foot reflexology, body polishes with rose, lavender or green tea, a black mud mask, facials, ritual baths including the Malay Mandi Bunga seven-flower bath, and longer rituals for couples. It is open daily from 10 am to 10 pm.
Sports & leisure
Time here divides between the sea, the jungle and quieter pursuits within the resort:
- a gym with floor-to-ceiling windows and a wrap-around deck facing the mountains and marina: Technogym cardio and strength equipment, free weights, yoga mats and an InBody body-composition scanner; open 7 am to 11 pm
- on the water: kayaks, Ceclo electric pedal boats, snorkelling and jet skis, plus a weekly game of water polo in the infinity pool
- complimentary bicycles all day, beach yoga twice a week and private sessions on request
- a morning walk through the resort's colonial architecture, the island's history and its plants and wildlife
- cooking classes twice a week for up to six guests
- a billiard room and a library above Straits & Co
- island outings: a private tour of the UNESCO Global Geopark — the first in Southeast Asia — along the Kilim and Tanjung Rhu rivers to the crocodile or bat cave and a fish farm; a mangrove cruise through Kubang Badak with lunch in a local family home and a swim off Jemuruk Island; a sunset dinner cruise by catamaran; and four-hour birdwatching trips (20 to 40 species)
- nearby: the Langkawi cable car and SkyBridge, and the courses of The Els Club Teluk Datai
For children
The Danna Jr. Club welcomes children aged 4 to 11 daily from noon to 8 pm, where attendants lead arts and crafts, sports, interactive games and fish feeding; its mascot, Danna Jr. Langur, is inspired by the island's dusky langur. Younger children can use the club with a parent or babysitter, and babysitting can be arranged on request. There is a separate children's pool, and the spa has a children's menu with a gentle massage, a mini facial, a kids' spa day and a mother-and-child treatment.
Restaurants & bars
Dining ranges from easy lunches to Peranakan dinners:
- Planter's — an Asian and European breakfast buffet, then an à la carte dinner menu blending Asian flavours with European classics
- Terrace — Italian cooking for lunch and dinner, with seafood, homemade pasta and a good list of wines and cocktails, served indoors or alfresco overlooking the infinity pool
- Straits & Co — Peranakan dinners, drawing on the cuisine born of Chinese and Malay traditions
- STC Café & Deli — Asian and international lunches, freshly brewed coffee, sweet treats and a signature afternoon tea
- The Verandah Lounge — a 1920s-inspired cocktail lounge with high ceilings, chandeliers and bar bites
- a cigar room in leather and wood, where each cigar is paired with a single malt, aged rum, brandy or a non-alcoholic drink
- romantic dinners on the beach
Swimming
The main pool is a three-tiered infinity pool looking out over the Andaman Sea, with a jacuzzi and a separate children's pool alongside (there is no lifeguard, so children must be with an adult). The pools are open from 7 am to 7 pm. The beach villas stand directly on the sand, each with its own infinity pool and direct access to the beach.
