About this hotel
General information
Tanjung Rhu Resort sits on the quiet northern coast of Langkawi, the island that became South-East Asia’s first UNESCO Global Geopark. The resort runs along a 2.5 km white-sand beach shaded by tall casuarina trees and faces the clear, aquamarine Andaman Sea. It lies well away from the island’s busier beaches and main attractions, so space, calm and privacy set the tone.
Every room here is a suite, looking out either to the sea or to lush gardens, with separate living space and balconies. Malaysian hospitality meets a classic, understated elegance, and days drift between two large pools, meals by the water and outings into the geopark’s landscapes.
Location
The resort stands on Tanjung Rhu beach on Langkawi’s northern coast, directly on the Andaman Sea and apart from the island’s livelier resort areas. Transfers from Langkawi International Airport are arranged by private car or limousine, and self-drive car hire is available.
Spa
The Spa follows a spa-villa concept rooted in the ancient healing practices of Langkawi’s native people. The signature Rhu Ritual Massage blends traditional techniques with long, flowing strokes to ease tension and restore energy, while the Rhu Relaxing Massage uses botanical essences and aromatherapy to balance Eastern and Western approaches. Sunset yoga takes place every Tuesday on The Rhu Deck.
Sports & leisure
Leisure combines sport, sea and the island’s nature:
- a gym with 180-degree views over the beach, with multi-functional machines and free weights
- a sea-view tennis court, with lessons from qualified tennis professionals and tournaments on request
- water sports including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, boating, fishing and island hopping
- guided mangrove tours through the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, ATV tours, cycling and morning garden walks
- beach volleyball, table tennis, darts, billiards and board games
- golf nearby at The Els Club Teluk Datai, with its sea views, and at Gunung Raya Golf Resort in the foothills of Gunung Raya, arranged through the front desk
For children
The family pool has a dedicated children’s section, and babysitting can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
Six restaurants and bars cover everything from relaxed all-day dining to sunset dinners:
- Sands — all-day Asian and international cooking, served outdoors among water features with views of the beach
- Chef's Table — an intimate dinner restaurant for contemporary Western fusion cuisine, with glass walls framing the sea and the sunset
- Saffron — a beachfront sports bar known for wood-fired pizza, bar bites and cocktails
- The Reading Room — a quiet deli and library of books and magazines, serving cakes, pastries, gelato, wine and afternoon tea
- Sands Pool Bar — drinks and snacks beside the adult pool, with a barbecue on Saturday evenings
- Sunset Pool Bar — signature cocktails and tropical smoothies by the family pool, with sunset views
Private barbecue dinners and romantic multi-course dinners can also be set up on the beach.
Swimming
The resort fronts a 2.5 km white-sand beach shaded by casuarina trees on the Andaman Sea. There are two freshwater pools: a 50-metre adult pool next to Sands restaurant, and a 60-metre family pool with three depth levels, a children’s section and a sundeck overlooking the beach. A Jacuzzi completes the facilities.
