Four Seasons Resort Langkawi

About this hotel

General information

Four Seasons Resort Langkawi spreads across 19.4 hectares of tropical gardens on Tanjung Rhu beach, held between the sea and a wall of limestone cliffs. The resort lies within the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark, the first in Southeast Asia, so mangrove forests, winding rivers and ancient sea stacks are all close by, and the gardens are a refuge for tropical birds, hornbills among them. There is an on-site Geopark Discovery Centre, and resident naturalists lead guests into the mangroves and rainforest.

The architecture blends Malay and Moorish traditions: soaring wood-beamed ceilings, ogee-arched doorways, hammam-style bathtubs, tropical hardwoods and Spanish marble, original artworks and antique pieces. There are 92 pavilions and villas, most of the villas with a private pool, together with The Geo Spa set among cliffs and ponds, five restaurants and bars, a family pool and an adults-only quiet pool.

Location

The resort sits on Jalan Tanjung Rhu, on Tanjung Rhu beach on Langkawi's northern coast — one of only four inhabited islands in an archipelago of 99 in the Andaman Sea. Langkawi International Airport is 20 km away, about 25 minutes by car; transfers are arranged on request, with a resort representative waiting in the arrivals hall. Kuah, the island's main town, is roughly a 30-minute drive. Flights take about 55 minutes from Kuala Lumpur and about 75 minutes from Singapore.

Spa

The Geo Spa is tucked among forested limestone cliffs, reflecting ponds and secluded thatched pavilions, with six treatment rooms, three relaxation pavilions, steam rooms, outdoor rain showers and a yoga pavilion. Its menu is built around four elements of the island — earth, forest, water and energy — and covers massages, facials, body treatments, Ayurveda and rituals drawn from Malay healing traditions, among them a couples' ritual and a massage using quartz and Langkawi black marble. A beauty salon, poolside treatments, private yoga, meditation and breathwork sessions, and wellness retreats of one to seven nights complete the offer.

Sports & leisure

A 24-hour fitness centre overlooks the gardens, and there is a tennis court (lessons on request), beach football and volleyball, and the Kawan Club with table tennis and air hockey. The water sports centre lends kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, gives stand-up paddleboard and wakeboarding lessons, and runs tubing and jet-ski outings, including a four-hour tour of eight islands in the south of the archipelago. The resort's naturalists lead boat safaris through the mangrove channels of Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, home to eagles, macaques and otters, as well as mangrove kayaking, early-morning bird walks through the grounds (over 200 species are recorded), wildlife talks, bay cruises and fishing trips. A 12-metre limestone outcrop on site is used for rock climbing and abseiling; there are also guided bike rides into the countryside, sunrise yoga and the Lesung Batu cooking school for Malay cuisine. Two golf courses, one in the hills of Gunung Raya, are less than 30 minutes away.

For children

Lutong Kids Club, for ages 4–12, runs a daily programme indoors and out: batik painting, kite making, kids' yoga, arts and crafts, treasure hunts and eco-excursions. Younger guests can also join the Kanak Kanak Chef cooking lesson, an educational boat trip into the mangroves, mini rock climbing from the age of five and junior spa treatments, while teenagers have rock climbing, archery and off-site adventures. The family pool is four pools in one, from a shallow paddling area to waterfalls, fountains and underwater jets, and babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

The resort has five restaurants and bars, plus round-the-clock in-villa dining, private dinners on the beach and themed evenings.

  • HAVA — North Indian dishes cooked over fire with local produce and Indian spices, with an outdoor terrace facing the Andaman Sea
  • Serai — beachfront restaurant serving a buffet breakfast of local and international dishes, indoors or on the seaside patio
  • Ikan-Ikan — Malay cuisine from heritage recipes, served in a traditional Malaysian house setting
  • Kelapa Grill — international dishes at lunch, Josper-grilled steaks and local seafood at dinner, with open-air tables by the sea
  • Rhu Bar — beach bar for tropical cocktails, wine, beer and snacks, with wicker chairs, hanging swings and sunset views
Swimming

The resort lies on a private, mile-long stretch of white sand at Tanjung Rhu, with loungers and beach service. The multi-tiered family pool, with a waterfall, fountains and underwater jets, is complemented by an adults-only quiet pool with eight private cabanas, and most villas have a pool of their own.
