About this hotel
General information
Villa Pétrusse is a Relais & Châteaux hotel in a late-19th-century villa, set in its own grounds of old trees above the Pétrusse valley and a short walk from the historic centre of Luxembourg City. Designed by the architect Pierre Kemp, it is one of the few bourgeois mansions of that era still standing in the city and is now listed as a national monument. It was built on the site of a former fortress bastion, and the old casemates still lie beneath the house.
The hotel brings together the villa itself, the Pavillon in the former stables and a courtyard with a fountain — 22 rooms, suites and a penthouse in all. Inside, historic details were restored: hand-painted wallpapers reproduce watercolours by the Luxembourg painter Sosthène Weis, bathrooms combine bronze, marble, marquetry and leather, and the light switches are black Bakelite. The gastronomic restaurant Le Lys, the glass-walled brasserie Ciel and a wine cellar in the casemates make the villa a destination for dinner as much as for a stay.
Location
The villa stands at 1 avenue Marie-Thérèse, beside an English-style park, looking over the Pétrusse valley towards the Adolphe Bridge, three minutes away on foot. The Gëlle Fra is a 6-minute walk, Notre-Dame Cathedral 7 minutes, the Grand Ducal Palace 11 minutes, the Chemin de la Corniche 14 minutes and the railway station 22 minutes. From Luxembourg Airport (Findel) the hotel arranges a paid transfer (about 25–30 minutes); tram T1 to the Hamilius stop takes about 35 minutes, and public transport in Luxembourg is free. Guests arriving by car can use the hotel’s paid private parking, booked in advance.
Spa
The villa’s spa works with the Austrian brand Susanne Kaufmann, known for natural Alpine ingredients. Treatments cover face and body, with massage drawing on lymphatic drainage, shiatsu, deep-tissue and fascial techniques, and rituals such as Forest de-stress and Hibernation sleep; the house facial is called Glow Pétrusse.
Sports & leisure
A small private fitness studio with Technogym equipment looks out over the garden. Otherwise this is a place for walking: the Chemin de la Corniche, the Bock casemates, Mudam and the Philharmonie are all within reach on foot. Further afield, the hotel points guests to the Moselle valley, about 20 km away, for wine tastings, and to Müllerthal’s cliffs and forests and the hills of the Éislek, both popular for hiking and cycling.
Restaurants & bars
Food and wine are among the main reasons to come:
- Le Lys — gastronomic restaurant: modern, creative cooking that joins Luxembourg tradition with Asian accents, with an emphasis on seafood and caviar; tasting menus of 4, 6 or 8 courses with wine or tea pairings and a plant-based option always available; dinner Tuesday to Saturday in the mirrored and frescoed Salon Marie-Thérèse, the intimate Salon 1867 or L’Atelier du Vin beside the kitchen
- Ciel — brasserie in a glass conservatory above the garden, with a terrace: seasonal produce, classics with light Asian touches and Luxembourg dishes reworked; lunch and dinner daily, a Martini Hour on weekdays and Kaffi & Kuch coffee and cake at weekends
- Salon Bourbon — lounge bar in the villa
- A salon overlooking the park — for afternoon tea
- Wine cellar in the historic casemates beneath the villa — more than 400 bottles, with tastings and masterclasses led by the head sommelier
