Hôtel Le Place d'Armes

About this hotel

General information

Hôtel Le Place d’Armes occupies seven linked 18th-century town houses on Place d’Armes, at the heart of the Ville Haute in Luxembourg City. A Relais & Châteaux member with just 30 rooms and suites, it feels more like a private residence than a city hotel. The old houses were carefully restored and joined by contemporary structures, so the building reveals itself gradually, through curving staircases, winding corridors, inner courtyards and terraces.

Interiors weave together Art Nouveau, a reworked Baroque and contemporary design, and no two rooms are alike. Beneath the houses lie vaulted cellars of natural stone, now home to the gym, a wine cellar and several private salons for meetings and family celebrations, lit by glass floors and light shafts. Food is central to the hotel: three restaurants and a cocktail bar are open to non-residents too, and the square itself is one of the capital’s favourite meeting places.

Location

The hotel stands at 18 Place d’Armes, in the pedestrian zone of the Ville Haute and a few steps from the Grand-Rue and its fashion boutiques. Guests arriving by car are allowed into the pedestrian zone, a valet takes the car at the door, and spaces in the hotel’s small paid car park are best reserved in advance. Luxembourg Airport (Findel) is about a 15-minute drive away, and the hotel can book a private driver or a taxi on request. Bus line 16 runs from the airport to the Hamilius stop, a 3-minute walk from the hotel, which is also served by the tram.

Spa

Facials and body treatments, relaxing, invigorating and energising massages, manicures and pedicures are given in a wellness space a few steps from Place d’Armes and can be booked through the hotel. Therapists tailor each treatment and work with Susanne Kaufmann products based on Alpine botanicals.

Sports & leisure

The gym in the vaulted cellars has a Technogym cross trainer, a WaterRower, a Nohrd functional training station, suspension trainers, kettlebells, free weights and Swiss balls, and sessions with a certified personal trainer can be booked during a stay. The old town is easily explored on foot, there are routes for running and cycling nearby, and an 18-hole golf course is within easy reach.

For children

Babysitting can be arranged on request, and the restaurants offer a children’s menu.

Restaurants & bars

A gourmet restaurant, a rotisserie, a bistro and a cocktail bar open daily and welcome non-residents as well:

  • La Cristallerie — the gourmet restaurant, set in a room of gilding and Art Nouveau stained glass; a seasonal, creative menu built around outstanding produce
  • Le Plëss — a rotisserie in the spirit of a contemporary brasserie, with an open kitchen and the spit at the centre of the room: grilled meats, catch of the day, PDO poultry, fish crudo and a terrace on Place d’Armes; breakfast is served here
  • Café de Paris — a Parisian bistro on Place d’Armes that updates brasserie classics with the seasons; the kitchen serves non-stop from lunch to evening, with a terrace
  • Le 18 Bar — an intimate, clubby bar with a horseshoe counter and a garden terrace: classic and signature cocktails, champagne and a daily afternoon tea of savoury and sweet bites
  • In-room dining — round the clock
Pets

Pets are welcome for a supplement, in the rooms as well as in the restaurants and public areas.
