Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga

About this hotel

General information

Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga is a five-star grand hotel in central Riga, facing the Latvian National Opera across the green park along the city canal, right at the threshold of the Old Town. Interiors are in a contemporary classic style, and the house runs on the rhythm of a large international hotel: 100 rooms, 41 suites and 23 residences with their own kitchens, round-the-clock limousine transfers and a concierge team that secures opera and ballet tickets, restaurant tables or even a private jet.

The top floor belongs to Stage22, a restaurant and bar with a terrace overlooking the Opera and the city’s rooftops; below are Amber Restaurant, the Lobby Lounge and a Cigar Lounge. Kempinski The Spa has six treatment rooms, a 16-metre indoor pool, several saunas and a private sauna suite for the Latvian bathing ritual. For events there is the daylit Grand Ballroom, five meeting rooms and the VIP Room, a banqueting space with a terrace and panoramic views of Riga.

Location

The hotel stands in the very centre of Riga, 40 m from the Latvian National Opera, by the entrance to the historic centre. On foot it is about 300 m to the Freedom Monument, 400 m to St Peter’s Church, 600 m to the House of the Blackheads, 700 m to the Three Brothers and Riga Cathedral, 900 m to the Latvian National Museum of Art and 1.4 km to the Art Nouveau quarter. The central railway and coach stations are 600 m away (a 10-minute walk), Riga Passenger Port 2 km and Riga Airport 9 km, about 20 minutes by car. The hotel runs 24-hour transfers in Mercedes E- and S-Class cars and V-Class and Sprinter vans; the beaches of Jūrmala are 30 minutes’ drive away.

Spa

Kempinski The Spa brings together six treatment rooms, several saunas, a steam room, a plunge pool, an ice fountain, an Experience Shower and a relaxation lounge. Therapists treat both women and men, with classic massages, facials using 111SKIN products and an amber-stone ritual. A highlight is the Latvian bathing ritual led by a bath master in a private sauna suite; the sauna suite can also be booked on its own, and the whole spa can be reserved for exclusive use.

Sports & leisure

The fitness centre in the spa has weight and cardio machines with screens for films, music or radio; water and fresh fruit are served between sets, and a personal trainer can be booked on request. The concierge books tickets for the Latvian National Opera, and the hotel’s limousines can be hired by the hour for excursions around Riga and across Latvia, including in a vintage Rolls-Royce. Old Riga, with Dome Square and Riga Cathedral, is a few minutes’ walk away, and the beaches of Jūrmala are half an hour by car.

For children

Young guests get a personalised check-in and a behind-the-scenes tour of hotel life tailored to their age and interests: back-of-house rooms that guests rarely see open up for them, and the tour ends with a cup of cocoa in the Lobby Lounge.

Restaurants & bars

The hotel’s restaurants and bars run from the lobby to the top floor:

  • Stage22 Bar & Restaurant — a top-floor restaurant and bar with a terrace: contemporary Asian cooking that pairs bold flavours with local produce, signature cocktails, an extensive wine list and views of the Opera and the city skyline
  • Amber Restaurant — a contemporary European restaurant with a large show kitchen, serving a buffet breakfast with live cooking stations every morning
  • Lobby Lounge — the lobby bar, open from morning to midnight, for light dishes and drinks through the day, a glass of wine or a classic afternoon tea
  • Cigar Lounge — a room for fine cigars, cognacs and aromatic cocktails
Swimming

The 16-metre indoor pool is in Kempinski The Spa, alongside a plunge pool, saunas, a steam room and the relaxation lounge.

Pets

Dogs are welcome for a nightly supplement. They are given food and water bowls, waste bags and treats, a dedicated dog menu is served in the restaurants and through in-room dining, and the team gladly takes four-legged guests for walks in the park by the Opera.
