About this hotel
General information
Fairmont The Norfolk is Kenya’s most storied hotel, receiving guests since 1904. Its buildings are wrapped in a lush tropical garden home to exotic birds, where a collection of vintage vehicles stands among the flowerbeds. The landmark of the grounds is a 1937 building, which several of the suites look out onto.
There are 125 rooms in all — 108 rooms and 17 suites — pairing a period setting with modern comfort. Four restaurants and bars, a heated outdoor pool, a fitness centre and ten meeting spaces, including a ballroom, complete the picture. It works equally well for a business trip to Nairobi and for a stopover before or after a safari.
Location
The hotel sits in central Nairobi, opposite the University of Nairobi in the city’s cultural quarter: the National Museum is about 1 km away, while Uhuru Park and the Kenya Railways Golf Club are roughly five minutes by car. Nairobi National Park lies about 15 km away. Free outdoor parking with 200 spaces is available on site.
Sports & leisure
The heated outdoor pool in the garden is the focus of hotel life, and a modern fitness centre takes care of workouts. A few minutes’ drive away, the Kenya Railways Golf Club has a nine-hole course crossed by a railway line. The hotel can arrange city safari drives in Nairobi National Park, guided tours of the historic centre, trips to tea plantations, introductions to the city’s art scene and visits to African fashion pop-up markets.
For children
Babysitting is among the services the hotel offers to guests travelling with children.
Restaurants & bars
The hotel’s kitchens cover the whole day, from a morning buffet to a steak dinner and a whisky with live jazz.
- The terrace restaurant — the all-day restaurant: pan-African cooking with Kenyan and international dishes, a breakfast buffet with live cooking stations and a monthly themed Norfolk Signature Brunch
- Tatu Restaurant — a steakhouse serving seafood, prime cuts and vegetarian dishes with South American touches, in a contemporary African interior with a patio over the herb garden, a chef’s table and wine pairings
- Cin Cin Bar — a lounge bar with African-inflected tapas and meze, a long list of whiskies and cognacs, signature cocktails, jazz on Fridays and outdoor seating; by day it serves snacks, cakes, hot chocolate and afternoon tea
- The Pool Restaurant — a relaxed poolside spot for international comfort food, cocktails, mocktails, juices and smoothies
Room service is also available.
Swimming
The heated outdoor pool lies in the tropical garden, with The Pool Restaurant alongside for light meals and drinks.
