The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto

About this hotel

General information

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto opened in February 2014 on the banks of the Kamo River, a few minutes’ drive from the city’s great sights. The building follows traditional Japanese architecture, and its rooms and generous suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows, look out over the city, the river, a Japanese garden and the Higashiyama mountains.

Mizuki brings together four Japanese restaurants — kaiseki, sushi, tempura and teppanyaki — and La Locanda is dedicated to Italian cooking, while the lounge, with its fireplace and library, serves tea with Parisian desserts by Pierre Hermé. La Prairie Spa has a 20-metre indoor pool, and younger guests have the Ritz Kids programme. Four meeting rooms, a business centre and a florist are on hand, and the hotel hosts weddings in its own chapel.

Location

The hotel stands on the Kamo River close to central Kyoto, around two hours by road from Kansai International Airport.

Spa

La Prairie Spa, the brand’s first hotel spa in Asia, has a 20-metre indoor pool, sauna, steam room, gym, relaxation area and seven treatment rooms, including a spa suite. Face and body rituals, among them treatments with heated bamboo sticks and basalt stones, use La Prairie products.

Sports & leisure

A 24-hour gym and the 20-metre indoor pool in La Prairie Spa cover training and swimming, and the hotel arranges cycling tours, pottery, kyo-karakami woodblock printing and kenbu, the samurai sword dance.

For children

Younger guests can join the Ritz Kids programme of educational and entertaining activities.
