About this hotel
General information
Park Hyatt Kyoto describes itself as a luxury guesthouse: a hotel of 70 rooms, nine of them suites, stepping up the Higashiyama hillside along the cobbles of Ninenzaka, inside the largest preserved district of traditional buildings in Kyoto. It sits on old temple land beside the gardens of the Kyoyamato ryotei, and its windows look out over Yasaka Pagoda and the tiled roofs of the wooden machiya townhouses.
The interiors are quiet and warm, with fragrant tamo wood, work by local artists and Japanese gardens throughout the property. Guests have a library of books and a tea lounge to themselves, and the concierge team arranges introductions to the city’s culture, from tea ceremony and zazen meditation to walks through the old temples. A 200 m² event space serves meetings and private celebrations.
Location
The hotel is in Higashiyama, on the Ninenzaka slope that climbs to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, about half a kilometre away on foot, with Kodai-ji Temple and Yasaka Pagoda close by. Kyoto Station is 2.5 km away, around 15 minutes by car, and Kansai International Airport 110 km, 90–120 minutes by car. Valet parking is available around the clock.
Spa
The Spa at Park Hyatt Kyoto, on the third floor, is reserved for hotel guests. It has a single private treatment suite for two with a relaxation lounge, and the Bathhouse with steam and dry saunas. Treatments open with a foot bath of organic Uji green tea extracts; the menu includes the Park Hyatt Kyoto signature ritual with the hotel’s own essential oils, adapted to the seasons, a bamboo massage, a Japanese dry body massage and facials with KOTOSHINA products made from plants grown in Uji.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre is open 24 hours, and yoga classes are held in a room overlooking tiled rooftops and Yasaka Pagoda. Through the concierge, guests can arrange private zazen meditation followed by a talk with a monk, a tour of Kiyomizu-dera with its head priest that includes areas closed to visitors, a guided walk through Sennyu-ji Temple with a resident monk, a tea ceremony in Kyoyamato’s teahouse, kintsugi classes, a stroll through the old streets in kimono with a photographer, or a rickshaw ride around Higashiyama.
For children
Babysitting can be arranged in advance.
Restaurants & bars
The kitchens build on fresh, seasonal produce from the country around Kyoto:
- Yasaka – the signature teppanyaki restaurant on the fourth floor, pairing Japanese tradition with French technique, with floor-to-ceiling windows onto Yasaka Pagoda and the city
- Kohaku – an intimate bar next to Yasaka, in dark wood and leather, with pagoda views and rare whisky, sake and gin from Kyoto producers
- KYOTO BISTRO – a relaxed ground-floor café with an open kitchen and windows onto Ninenzaka, serving breakfast, lunch, early dinner, house-made choux and fresh coffee on Asahiyaki pottery
- The Living Room – the fireside lobby lounge, with a five-course afternoon tea and tea pairings by day and a wine and sake bar in the evening
- Kyoyamato – a traditional ryotei beside the hotel, serving seasonal Kyoto kaiseki in historic buildings listed by the city as cultural assets; its kitchen also prepares the Japanese breakfast for hotel guests
In-room dining runs around the clock.
