About this hotel
General information
Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo sits in quiet Bunkyo within a large wooded garden that began life as a private Meiji-era estate. Paths wind past Yusuichi pond, a red bridge, tea houses and an old three-storied pagoda; cherry blossom in spring, fireflies in summer, autumn foliage and winter camellias mark the year, and nearly every room, restaurant and hall frames its own view of the greenery.
The garden’s signature is the Tokyo Sea of Clouds: several times a day a man-made mist drifts over the pond and pagoda, and after dark it is lit by a thousand lamps in the trees, with light and sound. The hotel has eight restaurants and bars, the YU, THE SPA by L’OCCITANE with a pool and onsen, the Le Ciel lounge for suite guests and tea ceremonies in its historic tea houses. Rooms come in two styles, Prime Classic and Prime Modern, and there are halls for weddings and business events.
Location
The hotel stands in Sekiguchi, in Tokyo’s Bunkyo ward, about 10 minutes on foot from Edogawabashi metro station; a taxi takes around 30 minutes to Tokyo Station and around 25 minutes to Shinjuku. The limousine bus from Haneda takes about 60 minutes and from Narita about 90 minutes, and the hotel arranges airport transfers on request. On weekends and holidays a free shuttle runs from Ikebukuro Station (about 20 minutes).
Spa
YU, THE SPA by L’OCCITANE is a modern, naturally lit spa with an onsen filled with hot-spring water brought from Ito on the Izu Peninsula, a sauna, a jet bath and a lounge for breaks between swimming and bathing. Treatments use L’OCCITANE products, for one or for two, and one treatment room has a Vichy shower. A separate Esthetic Salon Guerlain Paris adds its own treatment and relaxation rooms.
Sports & leisure
The fitness gym is open around the clock and free for guests, with swimwear and workout clothes to rent. The garden can be explored independently or on a tour; tea ceremonies take place in the historic tea houses on weekdays by reservation, alongside the Mindful MITATE tea ceremony. Through the concierge, staying guests can book Noh theatre, Zen meditation, workshops in kumihimo braiding, Edo kiriko glass and woodblock printing, walks through local streets and an evening of izakaya hopping.
For children
There is no kids’ club, but the concierge can arrange a babysitter to look after children in the room.
