About this hotel
General information
Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a mountain resort in Hokkaido, set within Niseko Village at the foot of Niseko Annupuri. With just 50 rooms and suites, it is an intimate place: floor-to-ceiling windows frame the cone of Mount Yotei and the slopes of Annupuri, and the interiors blend classic and contemporary design as a tribute to the beauty of Japan.
The resort is built around kachou fuugetsu, the Japanese idea of discovering oneself through nature — forest walks, hot springs and cooking drawn from local farms and waters. Every guest is looked after by a Do San, a personal host whose title means “person of Hokkaido” and who knows the region's history and traditions, while the resort's own mountain team, the Higashiyama Reservists, leads outdoor adventures in winter and summer. Winters revolve around skiing in Niseko; summers bring hiking, riding and golf.
Location
The hotel lies in Niseko Village, within the town of Niseko in western Hokkaido, facing Mount Yotei and Niseko Annupuri. New Chitose Airport near Sapporo is about 114 km away, and the nearest railway station is JR Kutchan. The hotel runs no shuttle of its own: in season the Niseko Village Bus connects with the airport (seats must be reserved at least four days ahead), private transfers can be booked with a limousine company, and guest parking is free.
Spa
Spa Chasi La Sothys takes its name from an Ainu word meaning “sanctuary”. Its onsen is fed by the mineral-rich hot springs of Niseko, with indoor and outdoor baths for women and men separately, mountain views, quiet gardens and saunas; a private onsen can be booked as an upgrade. The treatments were designed by the French skincare house Sothys, pairing Japanese tradition with European techniques: massages, including for couples, facials, eye treatments and scalp and hair care. Signatures include Nature's Wisdom, built on black silica found only in Hokkaido, with a massage and a hot-spring-water facial, and Enrich Five, which combines a consultation, stretching and botanical extracts; ingredients also include spring water, birch and lavender. Treatments are by appointment.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre, with Technogym equipment and views of the surrounding nature, is open around the clock, with wellness balls and yoga mats. In winter, alongside skiing and snowboarding, there is snowshoeing, sledding and snowmobiling, and the resort's mountain experts, the Higashiyama Reservists, lead curated ski days. In summer the Niseko forests open up for guided or independent hiking, mountain biking and horse riding, as well as tree trekking, zip-lining, rail sliding and hot-air balloon flights. In season, two 18-hole courses are close by: Niseko Village Golf Course (par 73), set in forest with views of Mount Yotei, and Niseko Golf Course (par 72).
For children
In winter the Niseko Village Kids Club welcomes children from 18 months to nine years with creative workshops in art, music, dance and drama, hands-on science sessions on winter nature and wildlife, an introduction to Japanese traditions and world cultures, snow play and eco-minded team projects. The fuller programme adds lunch and a private ski lesson for children aged four and over.
Restaurants & bars
The kitchens build on produce from local farms and Hokkaido seafood:
- Yukibana — an all-day restaurant overlooking Mount Yotei, part lounge and part mountain lodge, serving international dishes from local produce alongside Asian and lighter options; breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Sushi Nagi — omakase sushi prepared by the itamae from local seafood and farm ingredients; dinner only
- Ume Lounge — a bar with a fireplace and nature-inspired design, pouring classic and original cocktails, local craft beers and a selection of Japanese whiskies
In-room dining is also available.
Skiing
The resort has direct access to the Niseko United ski area — more than 880 hectares of terrain, around 70 runs and almost 50 km of groomed slopes, plus almost 19 km of backcountry routes, with average snowfall of around 18 m a year. The hotel provides ski lockers and boot warmers.
Pets
Pets are not allowed.
