About this hotel
General information
Halekulani Okinawa runs along the west coast of Okinawa Island in the village of Onna, on a shoreline protected within Okinawa Kaigan Quasi-National Park. The resort is set across two wings, the Beach Front Wing and the Sunset Wing, plus a handful of villas on the cliff top — 360 rooms, suites and villas in all, every one of them with a view of the sea. Interiors are light and understated, opening onto terraces turned towards the coral-blue water and the evening sun.
The house blends Hawaiian hospitality with Okinawan culture: treatments at SpaHalekulani draw on the healing traditions of both islands, while guest workshops cover the sanshin, yachimun pottery and painting shisa guardian figures. The centrepiece of the grounds is the Orchid Pool, laid with an orchid mosaic, and a natural reef beach lies directly in front. Several restaurants and bars, a club lounge for club-category guests, a fitness centre, tennis and boutiques complete the picture.
Location
The hotel stands in Onna on Okinawa’s west coast, looking out over the East China Sea and Nago Bay. Naha Airport is about 75 minutes away by car via the expressway, or around 90 minutes on ordinary roads; the Airport Limousine Bus takes about two hours and stops at the Beach Front Wing entrance. The hotel can also arrange a chauffeured car transfer.
Spa
SpaHalekulani brings together Hawaiian and Okinawan approaches to wellbeing, with treatments that include a Hawaiian-inspired cleansing ritual. The heat area has a natural hot-spring bath, a dry sauna for men, a mist sauna and experience shower for women, and an indoor pool with an air-bubble bath and a hot-spring bath (swimwear on). Dedicated treatments are offered to expectant mothers; the treatments and the heat area are open to guests aged 16 and over.
Sports & leisure
The fitness centre, with natural light and ocean views, is open around the clock; there are courts for tennis and pickleball, morning beach walks with stretching, yoga on the lawn by the beach and SUP yoga. On the water:
- coral-reef snorkelling straight from the beach and an advanced snorkel along the neighbouring coves
- introductory dives for beginners and guided dives for certified divers
- an underwater helmet walk, parasailing, clear-bottomed kayaks and SUP boards, and a sunset SUP-kayak session
- catamaran and cruiser outings, including sunset trips and Cape Manzamo, a snorkelling trip to Minna-jima island and private charters
Cultural sessions include lessons on the Okinawan sanshin, yachimun pottery at the wheel, blending oils and balms from Okinawan botanicals, shisa painting, stained-glass work with Okinawan motifs, shell crafting, quilling and a coral-nurturing programme. Adults can also book swim coaching and a private tent sauna overlooking the ocean.
For children
The KIDS CLUB in the Beach Front Wing welcomes children aged 3–12, with staff looking after them while parents spend time at the spa or over dinner. Swim Kids lessons are held for ages 3–5 and 6–12, and babysitting can be arranged in advance.

Swimming
A natural beach with clear water and reef fish lies in front of the hotel; guests have parasols, loungers and tables, swimming is within a marked area and life jackets are provided for snorkelling. In season four outdoor pools are open: the Orchid Pool (680 m²) with its orchid mosaic and cabanas, the Quiet Pool (280 m², ages 16 and over) overlooking the East China Sea, the Ocean Terrace Pool (120 m², ages 16 and over) in the Sunset Wing and the shallow Kids Pool, 0.6 m deep.
