General information
Capella Kyoto sits in the old Miyagawa-cho quarter on the east side of Kyoto, beside the Zen temple of Kennin-ji and the Miyagawa-cho Kaburenjo theatre. The four-storey building is a contemporary take on the Kyoto machiya townhouse: its 89 rooms, 29 of them suites, form a square around a quiet courtyard garden with a water feature.
Interiors keep to soft natural tones and handmade textures, with Japanese artworks and antique pieces placed throughout. Cultural activities run daily, the Living Room serves complimentary refreshments, and Auriga Spa is built around private onsen baths. For events there is a 200 m² ballroom and two small meeting rooms facing the garden.
Location
The hotel is in Higashiyama ward, in the heart of Gion, about a four-minute walk from Gion-Shijo station and close to the Kamo River, Yasaka Shrine, Nishiki Market and the Minamiza theatre. Kansai International Airport is roughly 1 hour 30 minutes away by car.
Spa
Auriga Spa pairs Japanese bathing customs with body, face and massage treatments built on seasonal Japanese ingredients, including a line of treatments developed with THE GINZA by Shiseido. Facilities include four treatment suites, one of them for couples, three private onsen rooms where meals can be served, a relaxation lounge, and separate men’s and women’s steam rooms, dry saunas and experience showers.
Sports & leisure
The 24-hour fitness centre is naturally lit and equipped by Technogym, including a Technogym Check-up platform; there is a private workout room, personal training and yoga sessions can be arranged, and workout clothes and shoes are available to borrow for a fee. Capella Curates opens up Kyoto through temples, historic streets, artisan workshops and meetings with craftspeople and scholars, alongside the hotel’s daily cultural activities.

Three restaurants, a lobby lounge and a patisserie make up the dining, with in-room dining around the clock.

Rooms
All 89 rooms and suites start at 50 m² and are styled in a contemporary Japanese manner, looking out over Miyagawa-cho, the theatre, Kennin-ji or the inner garden. The six Onsen Suites each have a private onsen bath.
Each room has floor-to-ceiling windows, air conditioning, a 65-inch smart TV, a Bang & Olufsen speaker, minibar, safe, free Wi-Fi, a Sealy mattress and Frette linen, and a bathroom with a bathtub, rain shower, double vanity, Repronizer hairdryer, bathrobes and Bamford toiletries.

A light-filled suite with a king bed, a large living space, its own onsen bath and views of the inner garden atrium. For two guests.

A king-bedded suite with an open-plan living room, its windows facing Kennin-ji and its gardens. Sleeps up to three.
Capella Suite
A two-bedroom suite, one bedroom with a king bed, with a separate living room and a tatami dining area, overlooking Kennin-ji. Sleeps up to seven.
