Round Hill Hotel & Villas

About this hotel

General information

Round Hill occupies a gated private peninsula of about 110 acres on Jamaica's north coast, near Montego Bay. The land was once a coconut and pineapple plantation; in the early 1950s it was divided into plots on which private villas were built, and each of today's 27 villas still belongs to its own owner, has its own design and is let to guests as a whole. The villas are scattered over the hillside among tropical gardens, while below lie a calm bay with a private beach, an infinity pool beside the beach and a coral reef just offshore.

The main building, Pineapple House, holds the sea-view rooms whose interiors were created by Ralph Lauren, who also designed the cocktail bar. The spa occupies a restored plantation house dating from 1753. The resort keeps an old-school Caribbean polish: complimentary afternoon tea every day, live Jamaican music each evening, a villa tour through the estate's history, its own organic garden and a kitchen built around local produce. It suits couples and families with children equally well.

Location

The resort sits on a private, gated peninsula on Jamaica's north coast in the Montego Bay area. Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is about 25 minutes away by car. The hotel arranges private transfers (a 25–30-minute drive), with a Round Hill greeter waiting at a desk in the arrivals hall after customs. Guests flying in from Kingston can come by helicopter and land on the estate itself, and arrivals by private jet or helicopter are met at the nearby executive airport. A complimentary shuttle runs into Montego Bay for shopping every day.

Spa

The spa fills a restored 1753 plantation house set in about ten acres above the ocean: every treatment room was once a bedroom of the mansion, and massages can also be taken outdoors by the water. Alongside are an open-air yoga pavilion, the fitness centre, a spa pool and a secluded adults-only lounging area on the beach. Treatments include a Blue Mountain coffee scrub, a fresh pineapple polish, hot-stone massage with stones gathered on the resort's shore, CBD massage, collagen facials with marine ingredients, rituals for couples and recovery treatments designed around tennis or paddling. A salon for hair and nails works in the same house, and treatments can be booked in the villa, on the beach or by the pool.

Sports & leisure
  • Tennis centre: three Har-Tru clay courts and one hard court, four pickleball courts, floodlit upper courts for evening play, private lessons, clinics with coaches and former touring pros, and a tennis pro shop
  • Complimentary for guests: kayaks, paddleboards, snorkelling gear, a water trampoline in the bay and glass-bottom boat rides
  • Watersports centre on the private pier: snorkelling over the reef, scuba diving with certified instructors, deep-sea fishing, yacht charters and sunset cruises (charged)
  • Fitness centre with Cybex equipment and personal trainers; daily yoga, body sculpting and stretch classes in the open-air pavilion or on the beach
  • A fitness trail of about 1.2 km with workout stations, running from the organic garden at the top of the hill along the mangrove forest
  • A complimentary daily shuttle to an 18-hole golf course about ten minutes away
  • Blue Mountain coffee, rum, Jamaican chocolate and wine tastings, mixology classes, an organic garden tour, a villa history tour and live Jamaican music every night
  • Island excursions through the on-site tour desk, including river rafting, ziplining and historic estate houses
For children

The Pineapple Kids Club takes children aged 3 to 12 in two groups: the Pineapple Club for ages 3–6 and the 7-Up Club for ages 7–12. The daily programme is mostly outdoors, with beach games and watersports, football and volleyball, nature walks, glass-bottom boat rides, T-shirt painting, basket weaving, reggae dance lessons, movie sessions and a little Jamaican patois. Parents can book nannies (three-hour minimum, evenings included); cots and high chairs come free of charge, there is a children's menu with early dinners, and toddler sofa beds can be set up in the villas on request.

Restaurants & bars

The kitchen cooks light Caribbean food rooted in Jamaican produce: around 80% of ingredients come from within about 56 km (35 miles), and herbs and spices are grown in the resort's own garden.

  • Seaside Terrace — the main restaurant by the water, serving lunch and dinner, with curry and Jamaican themed nights
  • The Grill — breakfast on the clifftop above the sea
  • Hanover Terrace and Hanover Room — fine dining under the sky with views over the sea or in an elegant indoor room, a sommelier-chosen wine list, rum and wine dinners
  • Beach Barbecue — a Monday-night barbecue on the sand
  • Cocktail Bar — designed by Ralph Lauren, also the setting for the complimentary daily afternoon tea
  • Beach Bar — under the shade of an almond tree, for cocktails and light bites
  • Pool Bar — above the infinity pool, looking out to sea

In-room dining, in-villa meals cooked by a private chef and, for villa guests, kosher catering through Chabad of Jamaica are available. Meal plans include lunch and dinner, the Modified American Plan (breakfast and dinner), the Full American Plan and the Round Hill All Inclusive Plan with drinks by the glass; they apply to stays of three nights or more and must be the same for everyone in the party. Evening dress is expected at dinner, with long trousers and collared shirts for men.

Swimming

The private golden-sand beach lies in a calm, naturally sheltered cove where the water is easy to enter, with no rocks underfoot, and a coral reef for snorkelling begins just offshore. An infinity pool with its own bar sits by the beach, an adults-only sunbathing area lies next to the spa, and the spa has its own pool. Most villas have private pools, and every suite has a plunge pool.

Pets

The resort's villas do not accept pets.
