About this hotel
General information
The Excelsior, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Florence occupies a historic palazzo on Piazza Ognissanti, on the banks of the Arno, on a site bound up with seven centuries of Florentine history. Carolina Bonaparte and several of the city’s noble families once lived here; Latin inscriptions still run across the lobby ceilings, and excavations brought a mosaic to light.
The hotel is part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection. Its rooftop, Cosimo, is a glass-enclosed restaurant and bar with 360-degree views over the city and the Tuscan hills. Each afternoon the Library hosts a complimentary tasting of seasonal Tuscan recipes, and the Les Clefs d’Or concierge leads guests through the hidden corners of the palazzo. Five event rooms, the largest seating 130 for a banquet, host meetings and receptions, and a dedicated team plans weddings. The hotel holds Green Key certification.
Location
At Piazza Ognissanti 3, in Florence’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi and the Duomo are close by, as is Santa Maria Novella station. The hotel lies within the ZTL limited-traffic zone. Florence Peretola airport is 7 km away, Pisa 80 km and Bologna 100 km; private car transfers are arranged on request.
Spa
There is no spa on site: guests book treatments at the Spa Suites, with myBlend therapies, in the sister hotel The St. Regis Florence, directly across the square.
Sports & leisure
A Technogym fitness studio is open around the clock, with cardio and strength equipment and free weights. The concierge arranges private experiences across Florence and Tuscany: artisan workshops including marbled-paper making, personal fashion and food shopping tours, Vespa outings and wine journeys through Chianti and San Gimignano.
For children
Babysitting and cots for children up to three are available on request, and the concierge suggests family outings nearby, such as the Museo dei Ragazzi in Palazzo Vecchio or a private treasure hunt through the city.
