About this hotel
General information
Splendido, A Belmond Hotel sits high on a hill among lush gardens, looking out over the turquoise Gulf of Tigullio and the Ligurian Riviera. Since the early 20th century it has welcomed Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Walt Disney and Maria Callas, and it still guards that heritage and its air of glamour.
The former palazzo’s interiors are the work of designer Martin Brudnizki. Guests have Italian restaurants, a piano bar, a panoramic pool and a Dior spa, along with a kids’ club, a boutique and garden spaces for events. A free shuttle runs down to Portofino’s main square and to sister hotel Splendido Mare, and the hotel arranges weddings and honeymoon programmes.
Location
The hotel stands on a hill a 20-minute walk from Portofino’s marina, 10–15 minutes by car from Santa Margherita Ligure and Rapallo railway stations and 45 minutes from Genoa international airport.
Spa
Le Jardin des Rêves Spa by Dior has a spa boutique, relaxation area, an open-air garden terrace and four treatment rooms offering Dior face and body treatments.
Sports & leisure
The heated seawater pool looks out across the Gulf of Tigullio. A 24-hour Technogym fitness centre, a yoga studio and a tennis court complete the facilities. Water sports, classes in Italian cooking, local crafts and mixology, wine and olive-oil tastings, hiking trails, excursions and boat trips – including on the hotel’s own Chris-Craft Corsair 36 – are all on offer.
For children
There is a kids’ club, and babysitting is available on request.
Restaurants & bars
The restaurants and bar all face the bay:
- La Terrazza — Ligurian and Italian cooking on an open terrace overlooking the Bay of Portofino
- Splendido Grill — Italian dishes from the grill, served on a terrace with bay views
- Baratta Sedici — classic and signature cocktails, refined small plates and live music
In-room dining and private dining are also available.

Rooms, suites and Villa Beatrice were designed by Martin Brudnizki, marrying the grandeur of a historic palazzo with the ease of the Ligurian Riviera. Windows, balconies and terraces look over the gardens, the Gulf of Tigullio and Portofino.
Rooms have air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, a safe, minibar, Nespresso machine, bath and/or shower, hairdryer and toiletries.

Dolce Vita Suite
A Mediterranean-style suite by the pool: bedroom, living room with dining area, a TV lounge that doubles as a second bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom, guest cloakroom and a terrace with outdoor shower, loungers and sea views; extra privileges included.
Villa Beatrice
A historic villa on a cliff above the sea: four bedrooms in the main house and one more in La Casetta cottage, living rooms, dining room, bar, kitchen, gym, a terraced garden and a pool terrace with sweeping sea views; with VIP service.
