Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco

About this hotel

General information

Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a 2,000-hectare Tuscan estate on the ancient Via Francigena, in the Val d’Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. Among its vineyards and hills lie an 18-hole golf course, the ruins of an old castle and a medieval church, with the historic village of Borgo at its centre. The estate’s history spans more than 800 years; the resort was founded by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo.

Guests stay in generous rooms in the village or in one of ten villas with private pools. The estate’s vineyards produce Brunello di Montalcino among other wines, and a cookery school shares the secrets of Tuscan cooking. There is a panoramic pool, a spa, tennis and golf, a kids’ club, three meeting rooms for 8–20 people and a private helipad; weddings and honeymoon programmes are arranged.

Location

The estate lies in the Val d’Orcia on the Via Francigena, 12 km from Montalcino, 45 km from Siena and 90 km from Florence. Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci International Airport is 119 km away.

Spa

The Spa at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco occupies the estate’s former wine cellars, with a sauna, steam room, relaxation area, garden and treatment rooms. The menu includes La Prairie rejuvenating treatments and rituals using the estate’s own natural range, made from plants, flowers and other produce of southern Tuscany.

Sports & leisure

The heated 20 × 10 m outdoor pool has sweeping views of the valley and a sun terrace. There is an 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf, two tennis courts, a 24-hour fitness centre, a training area for guests over 12 and an archery range with an instructor. Yoga, Pilates and tai chi, cycling and walking, stargazing with an astronomer, painting lessons, wine and cheese tastings, vineyard picnics and excursions are offered; golf and tennis equipment and bicycles can be hired.

For children

The Rose Buds kids’ club runs treasure hunts, swimming, horse riding, painting and pastry classes. Babysitting is available on request.

Restaurants & bars

Cooking draws on the estate’s organic garden, which grows more than 180 varieties of vegetables and herbs:

  • Campo del Drago — refined Tuscan cuisine and wines with views of the Montalcino hills and the Val d’Orcia
  • Osteria La Canonica — trattoria with a shaded veranda serving traditional Tuscan dishes and wood-fired pizza; also home to the cookery school
  • CD Bar — light bites, wines, cocktails and aperitivi with a panorama of the Tuscan countryside

In-room dining is available.
