General information
Palazzo Avino is a five-storey palazzo in the manner of a Mediterranean villa, set 350 metres above the sea in Ravello. Its pale pink façade, with pointed arches, small balconies and colonnaded terraces, sits within a compact park of exotic plants, lawns and flower beds. In the 12th century the site held a mansion of the aristocratic Sasso family; converted into a hotel in the 19th century, it welcomed Richard Wagner, Virginia Woolf, D. H. Lawrence, André Gide, Ingrid Bergman and Dwight Eisenhower.
After a long restoration the hotel reopened in 1997, keeping its medieval and Baroque features — arches, high vaults, niches and broad terraces. Neapolitan furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries, rich fabrics, large mirrors and chandeliers fill the interiors, and the windows look over the sea, the coast and fishing villages. Repeatedly named among the best hotels in Italy and Europe, it belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World. There is a meeting room for 70, parking, a limousine service and a private helipad.
Location
The hotel is in the centre of Ravello on the Amalfi Coast, 25 km from Salerno, 60 km from Naples airport and 300 km from Rome. Helicopter transfers to the airport can be arranged.
Spa
The wellness centre has a hydromassage pool, a steam bath, a sauna, a hot tub, a solarium and a gym on an open-air terrace, with a choice of massages, face and body care and beauty treatments.
Sports & leisure
The grounds have a heated pool, and the hotel arranges sightseeing flights along the coast by helicopter.
Restaurants & bars
Rossellinis, the gastronomic restaurant, holds two Michelin stars for its European and Italian cooking, fresh seafood and Asian delicacies. Caffé del Arte is the place for cocktails, conversation and piano music. In summer both set their tables on the open-air Terrazza Belvedere overlooking the sea.
Rooms
The 43 rooms, 11 of them suites, are decorated in light tones with tiled and carpeted floors and 18th- and 19th-century furniture; some have a terrace or balcony. Several suites have Baroque interiors and marble bathrooms with a jacuzzi.
