General information
Il San Pietro was founded in 1962 by Carlo Cinque, whose family owned the Miramare, one of Italy’s oldest hotels. He built it on a secluded cliff 2 km south of Positano, beside the small chapel of San Pietro, and set out to make the buildings sit in complete harmony with the protected landscape around them. Vines climb over the terraces, bougainvillea spills from the balconies and the whole Amalfi Coast unfolds in every direction.
Inside, understated luxury meets apparent simplicity: fine furniture, statues in the halls and restaurant, terracotta tiles designed by the Neapolitan ceramicists the Stingo brothers, original paintings and candelabra. Today the hotel belongs to the founder’s nephews, who keep it as he made it. In Cinque’s lifetime friends such as Laurence Olivier, Liza Minnelli, Catherine Deneuve and Gregory Peck stayed here. Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento, Ravello, Naples, Capri, Vesuvius and Pompeii are all within reach for day trips.
Location
The hotel is on the Amalfi Coast, 2 km from Positano and 58 km from Naples Capodichino airport.
Spa
The La Prairie beauty centre offers face and body programmes based on current techniques. There is also a gym, massage rooms, a Turkish bath and a Finnish shower.
Sports & leisure
The hotel has a tennis court and rents out sports equipment. From May to October it runs boat trips along the coast, and its own boat, Joey, will take guests to any town on the Amalfi Coast or the Bay of Naples for sightseeing or shopping. Boats can also be chartered.

Children over the age of 10 are welcome.
Restaurants & bars
Zass, which holds a Michelin star, serves traditional Italian and international cuisine. Il Carlino, named after the founder, sits right on the beach with an open kitchen and a wide choice of classic Italian dishes.
Swimming
There is an outdoor panoramic pool and a private pebble beach, reached from the lobby by a lift cut into the cliff.
Rooms
The hotel has 59 double rooms decorated with Mediterranean simplicity, in keeping with the landscape outside. Each has a spacious furnished terrace looking out to sea from the cliff.
Each room has internet access, a TV, a telephone, a minibar, a safe, air conditioning, a hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers, scales and toiletries.
