Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel

About this hotel

General information

Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel curves around Romazzino Bay on the Costa Smeralda in north-eastern Sardinia, set between an emerald shoreline and flowering gardens. Founded by the Aga Khan IV, it opened in the 1960s and soon became a byword for Italian jet-set glamour; Michele Busiri Vici’s architecture of whitewashed stucco and soft curves still defines it today.

The hotel is managed by Belmond, part of the LVMH group. There are 94 rooms and suites, two Signature Suites and six villas with their own pools, together with a private sandy beach facing the La Maddalena archipelago, a seawater and a freshwater pool, Rosemary Spa, an open-air gym, a Pilates and yoga studio, tennis and padel courts and a children’s club. Intimate weddings and blessings, honeymoons and family celebrations are arranged, and there are dedicated spaces for private events.

Location

The hotel sits on Romazzino Bay near Porto Cervo, in the municipality of Arzachena. Olbia Costa Smeralda airport is about 31 km away, roughly 40 minutes by car; Porto Cervo is a 15-minute drive and Alghero airport about two hours. Given the secluded setting, a car or driver is useful for exploring nearby villages and beach clubs.

Spa

Rosemary Spa takes its cue from the Costa Smeralda landscape: four treatment rooms and a couples’ room, a rosemary-infused sauna and steam room, a relaxation lounge and Valmont products. The menu runs from signature massages to facials and body treatments, and the Pilates and yoga studio is fitted with Reformers and a yoga wall.

Sports & leisure

Days at Romazzino divide easily between on-site sport, the sea and the island beyond.

  • Fitness — an open-air gym with a personal trainer on request, a Pilates and yoga studio, tennis and padel courts
  • On the water — wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, paddleboarding and towable rides led by qualified instructors (ages 10 and up), plus a Sailing School recognised by the Italian Sailing Federation, with courses at five levels
  • Weekly programme — cooking and pizza classes, local wine tastings with the sommelier, mixology, an Italian coffee session, morning yoga, and tennis and padel clinics
  • Further afield — golf at Pevero Golf Club, the Pevero Health Trail, bike and Vespa tours, hiking on Tavolara, canyoning, boat trips to the Maddalena archipelago and to Tavolara and Molara, snorkelling, helicopter flights, and outings to San Pantaleo and to Bonifacio in Corsica
For children

A children’s club looks after younger guests, water sports are open to children from 10, and the two-storey villas suit families and larger groups.

Restaurants & bars

Two restaurants and three bars are backed by 24-hour in-room dining, and a dinner for two can be set up on the private beach.

  • Restaurant La Terrasse — fine dining at the heart of the hotel with panoramic views over the bay: a modern reading of Sardinian and Italian cooking built on seasonal local produce, for breakfast and dinner
  • Éntu e Mari — a relaxed beach grill for lunch, with wood-fired seafood and daily visits from local cooks and artisans who share traditional Sardinian recipes
  • The Ginepro Bar — from aperitivo to late cocktails, with live music every evening and a cigar lounge
  • Pool Bar — cocktails beside the saltwater pool, light bites, and home-made ice cream by the freshwater pool
  • Beach Bar — morning cappuccino through to aperitifs among the loungers and cabanas, with lunch served at midday
Swimming

The private sandy beach on Romazzino Bay looks out to the La Maddalena archipelago, with loungers, parasols and cabanas. The natural saltwater pool is carved into the rocks above the bay, and a second pool is freshwater.

Pets

Pets weighing under 10 kg are welcome.
