About this hotel
General information
The palazzo on the Grand Canal was built in 1525 for the family of Doge Andrea Gritti. It later housed the Vatican’s ambassadors, and in the early 20th century became a hotel that drew Winston Churchill, members of the British royal family, the Princess of Monaco, Hollywood stars and writers such as Graham Greene, André Maurois, Somerset Maugham and Ernest Hemingway. Suites now bear the names of the last two, and Hemingway called the Gritti the finest hotel in a city of great hotels.
Period Venetian interiors sit comfortably with up-to-date technology. There is a fine-dining restaurant with a terrace on the Grand Canal, a bar and the Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo spa, and a complimentary water shuttle runs to the Lido. A 120 m² meeting room, a boutique and a concierge who can arrange a personal shopper complete the offer, and weddings are organised on request.
Location
The hotel stands on the Grand Canal, 500 m from St Mark’s Square. Santa Lucia station is about 25 minutes away, and Marco Polo International Airport around 50 minutes by water taxi.
Spa
The Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo SPA has a hammam, hydromassage showers and modern treatment rooms. Body and facial treatments use Acqua di Parma’s Mediterranean products, including the Oxygenating Complex line.
Sports & leisure
Water sports, golf and other activities are on the Lido, 35 minutes away by water taxi. In Venice itself guests can take Venetian cookery lessons at the Epicurean school, go out on boat trips and join guided excursions.
For children
Babysitting can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
Club del Doge, with its open terrace on the Grand Canal, serves Mediterranean and Venetian cooking built on local produce under chef Daniele Turco. Bar Longi is the place for a glass of wine, a cocktail or a light bite, and in-room dining is available.
