Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria

About this hotel

General information

Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria stands in the centre of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples. It was founded in 1834 by the Fiorentino family, who still own it, and comprises three connected 19th-century buildings set in a 20,000 m² Mediterranean garden with shady walks.

Over the years it has hosted royalty, statesmen, artists and celebrities; Richard Wagner, Enrico Caruso, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren were regulars. Guests value its attentive service and its balance of classic elegance and modern comfort. A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, it has meeting rooms for 30–250 people and arranges weddings.

Location

The hotel is in the centre of Sorrento. On request the concierge arranges transfers from Naples airport or railway station by Mercedes, limousine or minibus.

Spa

Boutique Spa La Serra occupies a restored 19th-century glasshouse amid the garden’s tropical planting and takes a holistic approach to wellbeing, with signature rituals designed to restore balance. Treatment rooms have whirlpool baths, showers, changing rooms and a private garden for relaxation, and there are suites for couples.

Sports & leisure

The air-conditioned gym is fitted with Technogym equipment, and personal training can be arranged. In summer a motorboat is available for trips along the peninsula to Positano and Capri, and for diving and snorkelling with an instructor, with all equipment provided. The hotel arranges private excursions with a professional guide and personal shopping in Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Naples.

For children

Children have a playground in the park, a five-a-side pitch, a basketball court and a paddling pool, a children’s menu in the restaurants and pizza-making lessons with the chef. Rooms carry children’s TV channels, and babysitting is available.

Restaurants & bars

Dining centres on Neapolitan cooking and produce from the hotel garden.

  • Terrazza Bosquet — Michelin-starred restaurant where the chef reinterprets traditional Neapolitan cuisine
  • L’Orangerie — open-air restaurant and bar by the pool beneath a white sailcloth canopy and fruit trees: wood-fired pizza, pasta, grilled meat and fish, salads, home-made ice cream and sweets
  • Vittoria — breakfast room with a buffet, organic options and marmalade made from the garden’s oranges
  • Bar Vittoria — cocktails, aperitifs, wines and light bites in the salon or on a terrace facing the Bay of Naples, with live classical, Neapolitan or contemporary music
  • Poolside Bar — drinks, quick bites, fruit salads, desserts and Italian ice cream
Swimming

The outdoor pool, lined in natural-toned marble, sits in the middle of the park. Next to it is a hydromassage area with a counter-current, jets and waterfalls for the back and shoulders, and a 200 m² sun terrace with loungers and parasols.
