About this hotel
General information
The Excelsior stands on the Lido beside its own golden-sand beach. It was founded by entrepreneur Nicolò Spada and designed in a Venetian-Moorish style by architect Giovanni Sardi. Its opening on 21 July 1908 drew 30,000 Venetians and more than 3,000 guests from around the world, and it soon became a haunt of high society and the bohemian set. Over more than a century its guests have included Winston Churchill, Princess Diana and the stars of the Venice Film Festival.
Moorish-inspired rooms look out to the sea or the park. There are two restaurants and three bars, a kids’ club, a pool, sports facilities, a hair salon and a boutique, while function rooms hold up to 500 guests and the open-air terraces up to 2,500. A complimentary shuttle runs to St Mark’s Square, and weddings can be arranged.
Location
The resort is on the Lido, 3.2 km from St Mark’s Square, about 20 minutes by boat. Marco Polo International Airport and Santa Lucia station are each around an hour away.
Sports & leisure
The grounds hold an outdoor pool, a sun terrace, a fitness centre and tennis courts, and water sports and excursions are available. A golf course lies a few minutes’ drive away.
For children
A kids’ club welcomes children aged 4–12, and babysitting can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
Two restaurants and three bars are spread between the seafront, the beach and the pool, and in-room dining is available.

There are 198 rooms and suites, with the Premium categories newly refurbished. Interiors draw on Moorish motifs, with windows onto the sea, the lagoon or a Moorish courtyard with a fountain.
Rooms have air conditioning, a telephone, plasma TV with IPTV, free Wi-Fi, safe, minibar and hairdryer.
