About this hotel
General information
Danieli occupies three historic palazzi on the lagoon front, a short walk from St Mark’s Square. The oldest, Palazzo Dandolo, was built in the late 14th century for Doge Enrico Dandolo and received nobles, cardinals and foreign envoys. In 1822 Giuseppe Dal Niel turned it into a hotel and named it after his own nickname, “Danieli”; Lord Byron, Balzac, Charles Dickens and Marcel Proust were among the early guests. The neighbouring Casa Nova, once the city treasury, joined in 1855, and the Danieli Excelsior wing followed in 1950.
The palace spirit runs throughout: a four-storey atrium with pink marble columns, Murano glass chandeliers and a gilded staircase, and rooms furnished with antiques, 18th-century frescoes and balconies over the lagoon. A rooftop restaurant with a panoramic terrace, a bar, a spa with a pool and historic function rooms for 20–100 guests complete the picture, and weddings can be arranged.
Location
The hotel stands on the Riva degli Schiavoni in Venice’s historic centre, a few minutes on foot from St Mark’s Square and Basilica, the Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. Santa Lucia station is 3 km away, about 20 minutes by water taxi; Marco Polo International Airport is 12 km, around 40 minutes by water taxi; Treviso Airport is 45 km, roughly an hour by car and water taxi.
Spa
The spa has an indoor pool, sauna, hammam, relaxation area and three treatment rooms, including a couples’ suite. Massages, scrubs, wraps and facials are joined by a signature ritual using Murano glass stones flecked with gold.
Sports & leisure
A 24-hour fitness centre with modern equipment and a yoga studio sits alongside the indoor pool. Guests can take gondola rowing lessons, explore the canals and lagoon by boat and join guided excursions.
For children
The hotel is set up for families, and a babysitter can be arranged on request.
Restaurants & bars
A rooftop restaurant and bar are complemented by a lounge in the Dandolo lobby, with in-room dining also available.
- Terrazza Danieli — traditional Venetian cooking on an open rooftop terrace overlooking the city and lagoon
- Terrazza Danieli bar — light bites, wines and cocktails on the panoramic terrace
- Dandolo — lobby lounge bar in Palazzo Dandolo for coffee, afternoon tea and evening cocktails
