About this hotel
General information
Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo opened in 1873 on a hillside above ancient Taormina and the Bay of Naxos. It takes its name from Timaeus, the Greek historian whose father founded the town. From its earliest seasons it drew society and the artistic world: Oscar Wilde and Richard Wagner stayed here, and later Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve and Robert De Niro.
The interiors still carry the feel of a 19th-century Sicilian aristocratic villa, now paired with modern comforts. The sea, Etna and the Taormina landscape are in view almost everywhere — from room balconies, the panoramic pool, the bar and the terrace of the Michelin-starred restaurant. There are rooms for meetings and celebrations, outdoor event spaces, a business centre, a boutique and a garden; weddings and honeymoon programmes are arranged, and a complimentary shuttle runs to the beach and to Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea.
Location
The hotel stands in the centre of Taormina, next to the Greek Theatre and the town’s main sights. The railway station is 5 km away, Catania international airport 60 km and Palermo airport 260 km.
Spa
The Dior Spa has an infrared sauna, a beauty salon, a relaxation area, a spa boutique and treatment rooms offering Dior face and body care.
Sports & leisure
The heated outdoor pool looks out over the sea and Taormina. The fitness centre has Technogym equipment and a Pilates studio. Water sports, classes in Sicilian cooking, local crafts and cocktail mixing, wine tastings, boat trips, helicopter flights and excursions can all be arranged.
For children
The hotel is set up for families, with babysitting on request. From May to October the Smile club for children aged 4–12 runs at Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea.

Two restaurants and a grill are joined by a bar in a winter garden and a pool bar.

Swimming
The hotel has no beach of its own; guests use the private beach of Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea in Mazzarò Bay, 15 minutes away by complimentary shuttle.

Pets weighing up to 10 kg are welcome.

Rooms and suites are spread between the main building and Villa Timeo, combining modern comfort with the setting of a 19th-century Sicilian aristocratic villa. Balconies and terraces look over the gardens, Taormina, the Bay of Naxos and the Ionian Sea.
Rooms have air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, an iPod dock, a safe, a minibar, a Nespresso machine on request, a bath and/or shower, a hairdryer and toiletries.
