Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem

About this hotel

General information

Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem occupies the former Palace Hotel of 1929 in West Jerusalem, a short walk from the walls of the Old City. Its pale local-stone façade, carved in a Mamluk style that echoes the city walls, was kept intact, while a glass atrium now rises inside. The rotunda has been recreated exactly as it looked in 1929, down to the arabesque metal balustrades, columns, ceiling mouldings and light fittings.

The hotel is known for the most spacious rooms in Jerusalem, the only Guerlain spa in Israel and a traditional afternoon tea at King’s Court. Marble, crystal chandeliers and arched windows set the tone, paired with modern comforts. A multilingual personal concierge can be contacted 48 hours before arrival, and more than 1,000 m² of event space, including a grand ballroom, serves meetings and celebrations. The entire property is smoke-free.

Location

The hotel stands in West Jerusalem beside the Mamilla quarter, 0.5 km from the Mamilla shopping avenue. Jaffa Gate into the Old City is 0.7 km away, the Western Wall 1.3 km, and the Mahane Yehuda market and the Israel Museum around 2 km. Tel Aviv’s international airport is 55 km away; the hotel does not run its own airport shuttle, and guests arriving by car have covered valet parking and EV charging.

Spa

The 1,470 m² Guerlain Spa is the only spa in Israel to work exclusively with the products and techniques of the Parisian house of Guerlain. It has nine treatment suites, two of them for couples, two Turkish hammams lined in grey marble with a heated stone at the centre, two dry saunas, a heated pool with a counter-current, a relaxation lounge and a Guerlain boutique. The signature Harmony in Jerusalem ritual combines hot stones with detoxifying techniques, and facials include Orchidée Impériale, Abeille Royale, Imperial Face Sculpt and a tailor-made treatment built on a skin diagnosis.

Sports & leisure

Guests have a fitness centre with Technogym cardio equipment and free weights, a heated indoor pool with a counter-current, and the hammams and saunas of the Guerlain Spa. The concierge helps plan walks through the city, from Jaffa Gate and the Old City to the Mahane Yehuda market and the Israel Museum, all within walking distance.

For children

In summer and over the Jewish High Holidays a kids’ club runs a programme of activities for young guests. Children also have their own check-in desk, a drawing kit, a treasure hunt, an electronic games room, a children’s breakfast buffet and a kids’ in-room dining menu, and childcare can be arranged on request.

Restaurants & bars

All the hotel’s restaurants are kosher. King’s Court, a bright room with tall arched windows and deep sofas, serves a dairy menu of salads, fish, pasta and pizza alongside crafted cocktails and desserts from the in-house pastry chef. From Sunday to Thursday it hosts afternoon tea, with finger sandwiches, small pastries and loose-leaf teas on three-tiered stands.

The Palace lays out an Israeli breakfast buffet every morning with Waldorf Astoria classics cooked to order. On Shabbat it serves a festive four-course Friday dinner with a carving station of traditional Jewish dishes, followed by a Saturday lunch buffet. In-room dining runs around the clock with dairy and meat menus, including a Jerusalem breakfast of shakshuka (eggs baked in a spiced tomato sauce), hummus (chickpea and tahini purée), labneh (thick strained yoghurt cheese) and za’atar (a blend of wild thyme, sumac and sesame).

Swimming

The heated indoor pool sits within the Guerlain Spa beneath a high arched ceiling and stone columns, softly lit, with loungers along the water and a counter-current for swimming laps.

Pets

Pets are not allowed; service animals are the only exception.
