The Setai Tel Aviv

About this hotel

General information

The Setai Tel Aviv occupies a historic complex in Old Jaffa, beside the Clock Tower at the very edge of the seafront promenade. The buildings date from the Ottoman era in the 19th century and rest on the remains of a Crusader-period fortress, so the thick stone walls, vaults and arches are the real thing rather than decoration. The restoration has kept that character, pairing classic Mediterranean design with contemporary interiors, while archive photographs of old Jaffa line the corridors.

There are 120 rooms, suites among them, a spa of eleven treatment rooms set beneath the stone arches of the old market, an infinity pool facing the sea and the quiet courtyard known as the Lemon Patio. The hotel is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and welcomes guests aged six and over.

Location

The hotel stands in Old Jaffa, on the square by the Clock Tower, looking out over the Mediterranean. A few minutes on foot lead to the narrow cobbled lanes of the old town, the flea market, cafés, the Jaffa promenade, the port and the city beaches; the old railway station complex and several city parks are close by too.

Spa

The spa occupies spaces that once housed Jaffa’s historic market: eleven treatment rooms under stone arches, separate changing rooms and showers for men and women, a dry sauna, a Turkish bath, a jet shower and a lounge with light refreshments. The menu runs from Thai massage, abhyanga and other Ayurvedic rituals to herbal compress, Swedish, deep-tissue and hot-stone massage, pregnancy massage and reflexology; facials use Dermalogica, while body scrubs and wraps rely on The Setai’s own product line.

Sports & leisure

A 24-hour gym next to the spa is equipped with cardio machines, free weights, yoga mats, hoops and Pilates balls. In the warm months the pool and its wooden deck look out along the Tel Aviv coastline, a concierge service is on hand, and meeting rooms and a conference hall serve business stays.

Restaurants & bars

Japón, the Japanese restaurant, pairs sushi and succulent meats with a Mediterranean backdrop. Kishle Bar, its counter clad in blue Brazilian stone, is known for original cocktails, a strong list of Israeli wines and a wide choice of local and international spirits. Coffee is best taken in the calm Lemon Patio, and by the pool there is wine and The Setai’s signature fresh coconut drink.

Swimming

The infinity pool faces the Mediterranean and the Tel Aviv shoreline, framed by a wooden sun deck with loungers where coffee and drinks are served. It opens during the bathing season only. The city beaches are a few minutes’ walk away.

Pets

Pets are not permitted in the rooms or anywhere on the hotel premises.
